About hungryhouse
hungryhouse is the UK’s premier online platform for ordering delivery of takeaway food. The brand was set up in 2003 by co-founders Shane Lake and Tony Charles, with the platform going live in 2006. The couple appeared on BBC1’s investment show Dragon’s Den in 2007 and were offered £100,000 by two of the dragons, though this eventually collapsed and was replaced by £150,000 from angel investors. The company was bought by Berlin-based holding company Delivery Hero and is still currently owned by the company, though Just East has announced it was purchasing the company for £200 million. This is yet to be approved by the Competition and Market Authority. The company have also expanded their service abroad now providing customers with a takeaway experience in 40+ countries.


Services of hungryhouse
As the company has partnerships with food houses all over the country, from London to Newcastle to Glasgow, hungryhouse allows customers to see which of the available 10,000 restaurant and local take-away establishment are near their postcode. They can filter restaurants by cuisine, such as Chinese, Indian or halal, browse the restaurant’s menus and customer reviews and feedback, to decide the one they are most interested in. They can do this through either the online or via their iPhone and Android apps. They then place the order online, pay with debit/credit card and have the food delivered to their house. Their website also has a section that lays out the most popular takeaways from across the UK, based on reviews, quality and returning customers. They also have a section aimed at restaurants looking to register their services.
