Are you looking for activities for your daughter? Are you trying to find out how to help her make friends, build her confidence and explore the world? Or have you heard of Girlguiding but are not sure what it entails? Read on to learn all that Girlguiding has to offer and how you can benefit from it, and then hear personally from those who have experience their activities or have sent their daughters there.
Founded in 1910 by Agnes and Robert Baden-Powell, Girlguiding is a charitable guiding organisation and the largest girl-only youth organisation. It was initially started due to several girls crashing a boy scouts rally, an organisation of guiding for boys which had been started three years earlier. It is now supported by 100,000 volunteers and has nearly half a million subscribers. The organisation follows the slogan “We discover, we grow” by leading activities and hosting events to encourage young girls to be adventurous, try new experiences and bond with other girls of a similar age. With these activities, the organisation aims to empower girls to grow and achieve their potential and to make a difference on their community, regardless of their background. Girlguides have also had a significant role throughout history as in the first world war the young girls acted as confidential messengers for the Marconi Wireless Telegraph and in 1940 to aid the war effort the members raised more than £50,000. Today they continue to focus on what can be done to give back to society with constant activities and events being held to raise money with more than one million pounds being donated in 2015 to charities such as Esmée Fairbairn. The organisation argues that some of the greatest outcomes of partaking in their activities is that it helps girls to conquer their fears, help out other girls with their confidence and discover their interests.

There are four sections to the Girlguiding organisation. Girls aged 5 to 7 are eligible for the Rainbows groups, ages 7 to 10 qualify for Brownies, ages 10 to 14 for Guides and ages 14 to 25 for the Senior Section. Some of the activities that Girlguides are encouraged to take part in are sporting experiences such as canoeing, abseiling, archery, bungee trampolining and fencing. They also partake in creative activities such as face painting, scrapbooking and plantpot decorating and various team building games such as communication games and food tasting games.
Another core part of the Girlguiding syllabus is there trips and events such as hiking and camping trips and particularly for the older girls, trips to represent UK Girlguiding at International Conventions and visiting remote villages to assist with development projects.
