If you hear on TV the harrowing conditions and circumstances in which many people are forced to live, you might wonder if there is no way to help these people, even if its just a little bit. Oxfam, a charitable organisation, does not just wonder about this; they try their utmost to actually mean something for these people and give them a bit of relief.
Oxfam is a charitable origination. The name Oxfam stands for Oxford Committee for Famine Relief. The organisation was founded in 1942 by Doctor Henry Gillett, Canon Theodore Richard Milford, Professor Gilbert Murray and several others. They were concerned about the poverty in the world and wanted to reduce unjust working conditions. That is why they decided to start this organisation that gives help to the poor and helpless. Originally they came together in the University Church of St Mary the Virgin in Oxford, but they now have official offices all over the world. Its headquarter is still based in Oxford but they operate projects all over the world. They have adopted the rights-based approach which stands for the right to a sustainable livelihood, basic social services, life and security, right to be heard and right to an identity. With these goals, they believe that poverty and powerlessness can be avoided. Therefore they raise money by collecting money and by selling second-hand items from their Oxfam Shops. They raise money by donations and by by promotional activities like Run for Oxfam in which people run for sponsors, or the Oxfam cycling team

They help by providing necessities and assistance for the production of food and drinking. For instance, they make sure that farmers get a good price for their products. But they also provide health care and strive for education for everyone, because knowledge is the power to success. But they also fight for women’s rights and civil rights, and help and aid in case of conflicts and (natural) disasters. And they want to make the world a better place by paying attention to climate change and how it can be reduced. They work on these goals by giving practical help and assistance, but also by education so the people can help themselves.

I have been connected to Oxfam since last year, I have small education institution where I teach kids about art and activities. I am also donating a constant amount to OXFAM as they are emerging as global superheroes saving people from poverty and miseries. They have been active in more than 85 countries, raising money for different causes. I have paid some visits to their centers, schools, and offices around. They are huge than I thought. I also got a chance to be their volunteer in their various campaigns. I recommend to people to visit them, join them and participate in a change, part of something that works on a global level. Everyone must donate to such causes and especially with Oxfam where you exactly know how your money is doing good to someone at a different corner of the world.
