Arlo & Jacob was founded when the founder realised the need to create beautiful furniture that could also could bare the brunt of his two boys, Arlo and Jaob, playing relentlessly on them, bouncing, fort-building and then sleeping. The company’s roots lie in Long Eaton, Nottingham, which has long been known for its cotton-spinning industry that led to it being a home of upholstery quality and development. The location Arlo & Jacob use for their current furniture production was first set up by an apprentice upholsterer called F.C Wade in 1921. Not only does the fabric of Arlo & Jacob’s upholstery come from a historical site of quality, but the hardwood frames are also guaranted as from ethically managed forests. Even the spring work and painting are all completed in the workshop by the skilled craft team.
Though the brand is very young, their team is rich with skills and experience, including award winning furniture designers. These include Chris Eckersley, who was awarded The Prince’s Medal by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2002, Ian Archer, who won a Design Guild Mark Award in 2012 for his commitment to British design and craftmanship, Jessica Zoob, who won the Elle Deco award for Best British Pattern 2014, and Daniel Heath who set up his own bespoke craft material workshop.
