With over 200 years experience, Suttons have built an empire of seed supplies that is acknowledged internationally. Providing quality seeds, plants and gardening advice to all ages, for the home and allotment gardener. If you’re looking for something different to grow in your flowerbeds, borders or containers, you’ll find inspiration in Sutton’s vast range of seeds that are continuously updated.
Founded in 1806 by John Sutton in Reading, ‘House of Sutton’ began by selling corn. When John’s sons joined the company in 1832, the business began to expand into the flower and vegetable seed industry. They quickly became the first seed house to supply pure, unadulterated seed in the UK and now the name Sutton is known all over the world. After the acquisition of nurseries to produce seeds, seedlings and small plants for sale, a decision was made to create a laboratory to test their own seeds and improve. The company were proud to receive Royal patronage in 1858, at the request of Queen Victoria to provide seeds to the Royal household. This honour has been testament to the firm’s success and has been supported up to the present day. Currently, many parts of the world are involved in the production of flowers and seeds for Suttons, in order to maintain supplies all year round. In 1976 the company made the move to Devon, where they reside today. More about the history of Suttons can be found in their informative history book, available online.
