The Dubai centered airline, Emirates, is a subsidiary of the the government owned company The Emirates Group and was founded in 1985. When the airline Gulf Air started reducing their flights to Dubai in the mid 1980's, Emirates was formed as a solution, funded by both the royal family of Dubai, and Pakistan International Airlines. They now possess a fleet of 256 aircraft, travel to 142 destinations around the world and they operate around 3,600 flights each week from their central airport, Dubai International Airport, making up more than half of the weekly flights from that destination. Emirates is currently the fourth largest airline in the world, and the largest operator of Airbus A380 planes.
In addition to their vast number of customers, Emirates also have numerous awards to their name such as winning the Skytrax World Airline Award for best In-Flight Entertainment for 12 years in a row starting in 2004.
Furthermore, Emirates also put great emphasis on the help that they can bring to the world in the form of charities for those less fortunate and in working towards an environementally sustainable society. The airline runs their own charity, the Emirates Airline Foundation to which you can make donations and learn about the various functioning charities working towards helping children in need. Additionally, the Emirates initiative A Greener Tomorrow works to support other organisations that focus on environmental conservation by selecting one each year to be awarded a donation of up to $150,000.
