Madame Tussauds

We all love to meet our favourite movie stars or celebrity. While some of us can catch them on live red carpet shows or celebrity events and take pictures with them, others just admire from the other side of a screen with the hope of seeing them someday. The sad part is, some of us never get to meet them, and that is why several museums have come up with creative ways to help people meet their idols, both living and past through live wax sculptures of these celebrities and famous people. Madame Tussauds is a wax museum that you can check out whenever you’re out travelling again. You can know more about this museum and what to expect when visiting by reading up unbiased reviews of Madame Tussauds here.

About Madame Tussauds
Madame Tussauds is a wax museum founded by a wax sculptor called Marie Tussaud. The headquarters are in London, while it has branches and smaller museums in several other major cities on different continents. The founder, Marie Tussaud, started learning the art of waxing from childhood, and at 17, She was already the art tutor to Madame Elizabeth, the sister of King Louis XVI of France, at the Palace of Versailles.   After the French Revolution, she travelled and toured Europe, exhibiting her collection. She later settled down in Baker Street, London, where she opened a museum. One of the main attractions of the museum was the ‘Chamber of Horrors,’ where she exhibited wax sculptures that included victims of the French Revolution and some created figures of murderers and criminals. Some famous figures were added, including Lord Nelson and Sir Walter Scott. Some of the sculptures that were made by Marie still exist. About 400 different figures were initially contained in the gallery, but a 1925 fire damage, coupled with German bombs in 1941, caused most of the older works to be severely damaged, a few survived, and so the historical waxworks had to be remade, and they can be seen in the museum’s history exhibit. Madame Tussauds was sold in 2005 to Dubai International Capital, for US$1.5 billion. The company was then sold again to The Blackstone Group in May 2007, US$1.9 billion.
