About YHA
Youth hostels
have a cherished place in many people’s hearts. When you embarked on your first holiday without your parents, youth hostels were often where you ended up. They may also be the place where you met lifelong friends. Youth hostels originated in Germany and have had a presence in the UK since 1930. Since its founding, the Youth Hostels Association has been a charity that does not seek to make money, but to facilitate the adventures of young people eager to discover and explore new places.

YHA has a fascinarting history. In 1932, the charity got approval from the royal family when the future Edward VIII opened a hostel in Derbyshire. YHA was seriously affected by the Second World War when young people were joining the army instead of travelling. The charity quickly recovered after the war. Since the beginning of the 21st century, YHA has upgraded its facilities to ensure a comfortable stay, instead of a Spartan one.
