Halfway through the chain I remember thinking “this is falling apart” — solicitors dragging their feet, builders barely replying — and Andy just got on with it. It didn’t feel like a slick sales pitch; it felt practical. He chased people, explained bits I didn’t understand, and took the pressure off. Not everything was perfect — there were moments I had to nudge him for updates — but compared with other brokers I’ve used, he stayed calm and focused, which made a real difference. The paperwork itself was handled properly and I could tell he knew his stuff. Price-wise it wasn’t the cheapest option I’ve seen, but the way he managed the deadlines and kept the completion on track made it worth it. I’d recommend him to mates who want someone who does the hard graft and keeps you sane.
Stopped worrying about the mortgage
I was pacing the kitchen table the night before signing, convinced the mortgage would fall through — we'd had a nightmare with our last broker who couldn't handle the quirks of this property. From the first chat Jake calmed that down, saying it's common and workable, and then he actually did the follow-up he promised. He answered messages quickly, helped us make sense of the interest-rate mess and lender rows, and stayed patient when I kept repeating questions. We completed the purchase and felt properly supported; would use him again, no doubt.
Great broker, few small hiccups
Jake made the whole mortgage thing far less awful than I expected. I first heard about him because a mate from work tipped me off (he'd used Jake and couldn't stop going on about the speed), so I rang him up and that was that. Right away you get the impression he's proper on it — quick replies, sensible advice, and actually remembers the details you keep forgeting. He moved fast, chased rate drops twice and banked me a noticeably better deal than I thought possible, which made me very happy (my future self will thank present-me, I hope). It's not perfect—there was a bit of a faff with one lender's paperwork and we had to push on a signature more than once — but Jake didn't duck it, he chased, phoned, sorted a workaround and kept me in the loop, so it felt handled rather than bungled. Also, he explained the bits I didn't understand without talking down to me, which is a rare thing. I saw him initially after a recommendation in a Facebook group and then passed his name on to my sister — so yes, I've already been that annoying recommender. Small gripe: one email took an afternoon to come back when I was anxious, but that's on the human side of things, not a dealbreaker. Overall he was quick, practical and personable, and genuinely seemed to want the best outcome for me. If you want someone who moves things along, will fight for a better rate and doesn't make you feel daft asking questions, give him a try.
