a proper, weighty duvet, a decent pillow selection, and a chair by the window that was perfect for sinking into with a coffee. The lighting was warm rather than clinical, which made unpacking feel like less of a chore. Small things mattered too: the shower pressure was solid, and the towels were pleasantly thick. Breakfast on the first morning won me over — lots of choice, fresh bread, nice cheese, and hot options that were actually hot. The dining room is calm, not rushed, so you can linger. Location is bang in the centre, so I wandered everywhere on foot, popped back for a mid-afternoon break easily, which I liked. Check-in was quick and the Wi-Fi did the job, even when I had to join a last-minute video call. I went in a bit sceptical and came away properly pleased — comfortable, helpful staff and a spot-on base for seeing Luleå.
A bumpy start but dinner fixed it
I was sitting on my suitcase in the hotel lobby half awake, still buzzing from a night of calls and screenshots, wondering if this trip was even happening. I’d booked a summer escape for me and my partner because we needed a proper break — hectic move, a sore back and zero time together — and the package was supposed to include an upgrade, dinner and breakfast. Then the dinner disappeared from the reservation and I spent ages chasing it. Loads of messages, phone calls that cost about €30, and a sleepless night before we left. Not great.
But the turning point — the minute I actually felt satisfied — was when the duty manager came over, listened properly and said they’d sort it. They apologised, sorted the dinner and even made a small gesture to make up for the faff. The meal wasn’t Michelin-level, but sitting there with my partner, relaxed, warm plates arriving and the room actually being what we expected, I breathed out properly for the first time. Breakfast next morning was simple but good, and the view from the window helped too.
So yeah, it wasn’t smooth, and I’d be wary about booking through the same channel again, because that front-end was a real headache. But the on-site team did enough to turn it around. Not perfect, still a few rough edges, and the stress beforehand left a mark, but in the end we had the romantic weekend we wanted.
