I was making a cuppa when my phone pinged and there it was — a payment alert from an old slimming membership I thought I'd cancelled ages ago. It took a minute to work out what had happened. Turns out the account hadn’t been fully closed and a monthly renewal was quietly still active, taking £20 on two separate occasions. Annoying, yes, but what irritated me more was how hard it was to find the cancel option — menus buried, no clear reminders, and my details still sitting in their system. I rely on this service for meal planning and the occasional online session, so it’s part of my routine; to have it working against me felt odd. I rang my bank, they said it looked legitimate as a subscription (so no instant refund), and then they locked my card which was another hassle — couldn’t use it for a day or two. I eventually managed to cancel the renewal and the site let me stop future payments, though wiping my data wasn’t straightforward. Overall a poor experience with customer support and how they handle delivery of notifications, but at least it’s sorted now — just be careful and check your old accounts.
The tea-time click
dinners, Sunday treats, plotting lunches that don't fall apart by three pm. I was sceptical. Properly sceptical. Then one day, after a string of tiny wins and a few very slow weeks, I tried on a skirt I'd not worn in ages and it fit. That was the moment. Suddenly all the check-ins, the comments from other members — often just a "well done" or a tip — felt worth it. The staff chipped in too, sensible, no nonsense advice, not preachy. I hit my target last summer and have kept it. I'm a size 12–14 and of a certain age, so the online set-up suits me. Would I say it's magic? No. Useful? Definitely. And I'm still a member because it actually fits into my life.
