On first try, in the driveway, I realised there were no instructions in the box. I couldn't tell which Halo app to install — turned out we needed the road angle one with the blue line — and even after guessing it took about thirty minutes on the helpline to pair the camera to my phone. The support staff weren't native English speakers but were helpful, so credit where it's due. The camera feels a bit fiddly; it doesn't sit neatly over the mirror and part of the view is obscured by the mount. Also every time I start the car it replays a clip instead of giving a normal rear view. I'd think twice before buying again.
Not worth the hassle
I first saw this model on a mate's dash and he swore by it, so I ordered one. Fitted it and the DAB stopped working — that was the start. I contacted support and was promised refunds for both items, told to return them and that they'd sorted it; I even started court paperwork when emails showed a refund had been processed, so I cancelled the papers. Twelve days later, no refund. Then, while reprinting the paperwork, my credit card alerted me that Road Angel had charged me again. Lucky catch, otherwise I'd be out more cash. Manoj — named in their emails — kept saying refunds were done; that was just not true. It's been a mess, slow and confusing, but at least the card notification saved me some hassle. Not impressed, but relieved it didn't cost me extra
Mostly brilliant, with a couple of faffy bits
when it behaves, it's genuinely useful. The support team were a proper help — one chap on the line patiently talked me through a subscription muddle I’d made myself and actually sorted it, which made me breathe a sigh of relief. That said, the Sync unit was a bit temperamental in my main car. Seemed to rely on my phone’s GPS more than I expected and would go a bit odd every 15–20 minutes, especially on certain roads. That nearly put me off. I then got a Pure, thinking I could transfer everything over, only to find it needs its own subscription — irritating, but I sucked it up. The Pure has been much more stable in the car I use every day, so that worry eased. Biggest annoyance was wiring: the hardwire kit I bought for the Sync didn’t fit the Pure, so extra trips, extra clicks. Now I’ve moved the old Sync into my second car and it seems happier there, fingers crossed that was a car/phone quirk not the device. Dash cam purchase was fine, but finding an installer through the service was a pain — still looking for someone who’s decent and not ridiculously priced. Overall I’m glad I bought them; they do what I needed and the help I got was brilliant. Subscriptions sting if you’ve got multiple devices, but for daily peace of mind I’m content — just wish some of the setup bits were less fiddly.
