A lost pallet, but the refund finally fixed most of it

communication needs sorting, contact details should be obvious, and the courier let them down. Still, at least they owned up and sorted the money side, so I can’t say it was a total loss.

    Unexpectedly grey, despite the photos

Halfway through laying the bed I realised the contrast I paid for only shows up when the stones are wet. Bought a big delivery because the pictures on the site looked dark and sharp against my white wall. I followed the advice and washed them in the bulk bag, but it soon became clear you need to spread them out and hose them properly to get that dark look. While they're damp they look quite good — surprisingly so, actually — but as soon as they dry they settle to a flat grey, not the black I was expecting. The stones are heavy and pleasantly solid underfoot, the texture is rough and not slippery, so they feel durable, but the colour is the issue. Customer service wouldn’t accept a return because I’d already laid part of the area; their point was I’d ‘used’ them, but how else do you properly wash a load? I sent photos showing wet and dry halves and the reply suggested I’d bought two different products, which felt odd. Now emails are slow or ignored. Other suppliers I've used were clearer about wet/dry appearance, so lesson learned, though I’m mildly surprised how decent they look when wet.

Driveway blues, a bit of a faff

Standing in the drizzle on the day they were supposed to arrive was oddly tame compared with the fallout. I’d ordered roughly a tonne of dark decorative stones for a small front-garden revamp — mainly because my back’s not brilliant and I wanted something low-maintenance I wouldn’t have to be on my knees for. I booked a specific delivery day, took two days’ annual leave and cleared the drive. Then they rang in the afternoon to say it would be the next day. Fine, except by the time they actually turned up I’d already lost work time and had to cancel a landscaper. When the pallets arrived the stones didn’t look like the pictures online and they were pretty sandy, which meant extra sorting and raking before anything could be laid. I raised it with customer services, and initially they promised a refund for the delay and offered either collection and full refund or a 20% discount for the product issue. After chasing, the amount on offer kept changing — I was told one figure, then another, then silence until I called again. The one unexpected decent bit was the delivery driver, who was helpful on site and tried to minimise the mess, so credit where it’s due. Overall, the logistics and the sand content were the real problem for me; I’ll be a lot more cautious next time and definitely check other people’s posts first.
