Funny thing — I had a proper nagging doubt before ordering these. I’d heard the usual grumbles about golf shoes not lasting, but I thought, ah well, Foot Joy, trusted brand, I’ll give them a go. Fast forward and I’m a bit underwhelmed. I walk a lot on the course (usually between 12k and 15k steps a round) and play roughly 40 rounds a year, so I knew they’d be tested. Still, I expected more than 20 months’ use before things fell apart. By about August 2025 the sole and seams were coming away and the waterproofing had gone long before that — even though I followed the care instructions to the letter. I’m not one to skimp on cleaning and treating footwear, honestly. What nags me is that my cheap steel-capped trainers for warehouse work — bought for about a third of the price — lasted longer under way harsher daily walking. So yes, I’m left wondering why golf shoes seem so poorly made for longevity. Service and delivery were fine, ordering was straightforward, and no dramas there, but the product itself didn’t hold up. I’m mildly annoyed because there was some initial enthusiasm when I first put them on — comfortable, good grip — but the excitement faded as the wear showed. If you only play occasionally they might be fine, but for regular walkers like me it feels a bit poor value. I’d love to buy another pair from the brand if they improve durability, and I’d give them a second chance, but right now I’m shopping around and a touch sceptical.
Second pair, better outcome
the original shoes were a present, worn only six times, and the leather on the forefoot looked tired way too soon. I contacted FootJoy and at first got the “not suitable for you” line, which was frustrating given I’ve been a size 10½ since my teens and I look after my kit — shoe trees, careful cleaning after rounds, the lot. So, I pushed it a bit, sent photos, explained usage, and asked for a sensible resolution. It took a little persistence and a couple of follow-ups, but they eventually agreed to send a replacement pair rather than leaving me with scuffed leather and bad service. The turning point was definitely the moment the courier box hit the mat and I saw a pair that actually matched the brand’s reputation — no premature creasing, neat finish, solid stitching. That’s when I felt satisfied: the product matched my expectations and the company did the right thing in the end. Would I buy again? Reluctantly, yes — I like how they play and now I’ve got confidence in the quality. Price is still on the higher side, but the replacement process restored my faith a bit. Overall, a bumpy experience that ended on a positive note.
