keep it for a small refund, take store credit, or ship it back at my own cost. That was annoying, so I opened a PayPal dispute. It took a bit longer than I liked, there were a few tense emails and I even had to nudge them to stop asking me to cancel the claim. The turning point, the moment I actually felt satisfied, was when PayPal escalated it and the refund landed — I can’t tell you how relieved I was. Weirdly, a small bit of good came out of it: I found some clear advice from UKICC and a helpful rep at my bank who made the process less of a faff. So, still disappointed by the product and their first response, but glad I stuck with the dispute in the end.
Middlesex moment
I actually spotted these boots on Facebook one evening and impulsively ordered. A friend laughed and asked for the link, so I passed it on. When they arrived I was pleased — nice look, decent finish — but they were a bit too small. I braced myself for a long return drama, having had that hassle before. Then I clocked the return address was in Middlesex, not halfway across the world. That was the small relief that shifted the whole thing. I popped them back via recorded delivery, kept the slip and took a few photos at the counter. I sent them unworn, in the original box. There were a couple of messages back and forth, nothing scary, and then the refund hit my account. Right then I knew I was satisfied. It wasn't perfect, and I'd still advise people to keep proof of postage, but overall I'm happy. I told my mate about it and she said she might try a pair too.
