By day three without my car, I’d honestly stopped expecting anyone to help until the insurer got their act together. I called Williams Bolton BMW mainly to chase an update, and Helen actually listened. That sounds basic, but it made a difference after being passed around for days. She looked into it properly and arranged a courtesy car when she realised I had no way of getting about. The handover was straightforward and I was back on the road far sooner than I expected. Everyone I spoke to was calm and helpful, not pushy or dismissive. I hadn’t even bought my BMW from them, which made the effort feel even more genuine. If you’re stuck in a similar mess, it’s worth giving them a call; they treated me like a person, not a case number. Even the follow-up was clear, which took some of the stress away.
They saved me replacing a perfectly good unit
After being told by another place that I’d need a whole new head unit, I was already expecting a costly headache. Turns out that wasn’t necessary at all. BMW Customz checked the details properly and explained, in plain English, that my NBT EVO already had the right Wi-Fi hardware and only needed the CarPlay FSC Pack activation with 6CP preparation. The installation itself was surprisingly quick, only a few minutes, and the person helping me kept replying when I had questions instead of disappearing once payment was made. That made a big difference, as I’m not an expert and had been given conflicting advice elsewhere. It wasn’t exactly cheap, to be honest, but compared with replacing the unit it made far more sense. CarPlay now works properly. A slightly clearer order update would have been nice, but the support and turnaround were both solid. I’d use them again.
CarPlay and audio unlock — mostly impressed

They fitted Apple CarPlay and the audio unlock; on my first drive it felt properly integrated, maps and Spotify were smooth and the phone controls on the steering wheel still work, which was a pleasant surprise. Nadim showed me a few tweaks and how to switch sources, which helped — I didn’t expect that level of hand-holding. Two small niggles: the system can be a touch slow to wake from sleep, and there was a short delay on the booked slot. Neither were dealbreakers. Overall it feels like a sensible, well-done install that I’ll use every day. Fair price for the quality, good communication, would recommend if you want a no-fuss upgrade.
Head unit woes, eventually sorted
it must be the app or a software update. I did what they said — deleted the app, switched off updates, even rebooted and paired the phone again — and still the unit would fail after a short while. In practice that meant icons disappearing, Bluetooth dropping mid-drive, navigation cutting out and sometimes the whole interface rebooting. Each visit was a three hour round trip-ish, plus waiting at the premises, so that’s a chunk of time and travel costs on me. After a formal complaint they finally ran a deeper diagnostic and replaced a module; since then it’s been behaving, touch wood, menus are responsive and Android Auto connects reliably. I’m wary though — took a while to get to a proper fix. My tip: push for a component check or replacement rather than repeated reinstalls, or insist on a clear remedy up front. If you value your time, be stubborn about it.
Nearly there, but not quite
I grabbed this MMI Pro box because I spend a lot of time on motorways and wanted proper Apple CarPlay/Android Auto without fiddling with my phone — also worth mentioning I've got a dodgy back so having everything within easy reach is actually important for me. At first I thought it was going to be straightforward and that was the thing that made me hopeful. The moment I felt genuinely pleased was the evening I finally got CarPlay to appear on the screen and it stayed connected for a full hour of driving; music, maps and calls all worked as you’d expect, and I remember thinking “right, this is actually useful” — that brief patch of smoothness felt like the whole point of buying it.
