As the weather gets increasingly colder, most of us reach out for knitwear considering their insulating properties. Nevertheless, as an image consultant, I observed that even people that are usually well dressed (in that they wear colours and styles that suit them) appear to find it tough to follow certain guidelines when it comes to knitwear. When choosing knitwear, therefore, it is important to consider the fibres. Take a careful look at the label to know the type of fibre that the garment was created from. This is important, in that a real fibre will contribute immensely to the drape and general appearance of the garment. Fibres created from animals are usually soft to touch. The fineness of the yarn also affects the drape, ranging from the finest cashmere to tightly spun yarns that are always very heavy. The texture is another important factor to take into consideration. Go for finer textures and ponder on layers. It is also important to consider colour. There is a snowballing choice of colours in different shops. As an image advisor, I observed that most people find buying knitwear extremely difficult, especially when compared to other items, and some even end up buying knitwears with bad colour combinations. Ordered two merino jumpers, in different sizes to try, thinking I'd send one back, in accordance with their advice. Applied for return on the last day of 21 day period. First they tried to claim it was out of returns period, then when I pointed out it wasn't they issued a return. They've now sent the jumper back to me, saying they won't accept it because it's "been worn" even though it's completely new and all I did was try it on! (er, which is how I know it's too small!). The jumpers themselves are lovely - no problem there. I tried to reason that I've accepted one product, they've made a sale and in the interests of a positive ongoing relationship they're surely better off being reasonable, but they won't listen and have just set themselves against this return. Now I'm £90 out of pocket with a jumper that doesn't fit. Avoid.
