    Quietly good switch

switching to Harbor Compliance turned out to be the sensible move. I only started looking because my previous registered agent — a big national outfit — suddenly doubled their fee with a week’s notice, which left me annoyed and rushing. I first spotted Harbor Compliance in a couple of threads on a small business forum and a workmate also mentioned them, so I checked the reviews and gave them a shot. I used their "change of RA" help so they could handle the paperwork for me — that was the main reason I paid extra. Initially I was half expecting delays or extra fuss, but their customer service actually replied to an email over the weekend and then followed up first thing Monday. They agreed to expedite things because I needed proof on the state website before Wednesday; by Monday evening the change was live. One rep, Karen, was pragmatic and quick — not fluffy, just clear and effective, which I appreciated. It saved me a lot of time and stress and felt worth the extra cost. Not perfect — the site could be clearer about timelines — but the outcome was what mattered. I’d recommend them for the paperwork-heavy bits if you want a straightforward handover.

Oddly, I nearly didn't go ahead with them. Their website looked professional and the fees were about what I'd expected, so I thought it was worth the risk. I needed a registered agent for a small cottage business — mainly to keep my family’s savings safe — and I had doubts up front about handing over that responsibility. The doubts didn’t entirely disappear. Paperwork was paid for promptly and the invoices were clear, which I appreciated. But the company then dropped off the radar. I phoned and emailed several times over weeks. No useful reply. My formation stayed stalled because something in their agent filing wasn't right, they never fixed it, and there was no explanation. That gap cost me days of work and a bit of money while customers were waiting. I can see how this would work fine for some people; for me it was frustrating. If you value a quick, responsive contact, think twice. If their billing and interface suit you and you can chase them, maybe it’s okay.

    Summons accepted despite cancelled account

Halfway through July I thought I'd sorted the account, so when paperwork appeared in August it felt like a surprise. They had confirmed my cancellation, yet a summons for the business was accepted on our behalf — to an email address I didn't actually use and no online account I set up. That mix-up left me fighting a judgement in court, and I only saw the document after paying a fee. It took five phone calls to identify which person or department processed the summons; each call just shuffled me around. For running my small café I rely on a few straightforward services, so poor handling has been a nuisance. It works enough for routine tasks, but the delivery of legal notices and the customer service are weak and inconsistent.
