I can still picture that cold platform, standing there with a thermos and too-high expectations — right in the middle of it all, you realise you’ve been sold a trimmed-down version of the main event. I’d booked this as a proper bucket-list thing (and yes, paid the kind of money that makes you think twice), mainly for the Glacier Express and that famous Landwasser Viaduct. The trip itself had lovely bits — proper Swiss scenery, friendly driver-guides, decent hotels — so I wasn’t miserable. But the train leg was shortened and, crucially, we got off one stop before the viaduct. That sting stuck. I did consider staying on to see it, but the replacement connections would’ve meant arriving way too late and a lone walk back to the hotel on unfamiliar streets — no thanks. When I raised it with the company they pointed to a little schematic in the itinerary (not to scale, lines with no labels) and said the start and end points were there. That felt like arguing with a VHS tape — you can kind of see something but it doesn’t tell you what you’re missing. To their credit, they have updated the description to include station names now, and other parts of the holiday genuinely delivered — so I’m glad overall it wasn’t a disaster. Still, if you’ve got that one landmark in mind, double-check everything (and don’t rely on tiny diagrams). I’m grateful the rest of the trip brightened things up, but I’d have liked a clearer heads-up about the cut-down Glacier Express.
Halfway hooked
Halfway through the houseboat cruise I remember thinking this was worth every penny — and I almost didn't book. A mate tipped me off after seeing my “want to travel” rant and shoved a brochure across the table; I was nervous about the price and the idea of joining a group of about sixteen strangers. I checked the itinerary, worried about long transfers, but went for it. The guide, Albert, was brilliant — kept us laughing, organised and calm when things changed. Munnar’s misty tea slopes were even better than the photos, Periyar gave proper wildlife moments from the boat, and drifting through Alleppey felt like another world. Not perfect — one hotel was a bit tired and a bus day felt long — but those niggles barely mattered next to the friendly locals and how relaxed I came home. I've already booked again.
Quiet river jaunt
Needed a mellow escape after bad back; boat was steady, food acceptable.
A proper guide
Felt properly looked after — guide was chatty, calm, really useful for my walks.
Quick, smooth delivery
Started last week; delivery prompt, customer service friendly, pleased.
Packed days, rescue squad saved it
Went in March, busy trip; booking arrived promptly, customer service fixed a hiccup, guide brought snacks — lovely.
Friendly crew, small language hiccup
Great crew and food, tidy boat; only gripe is sparse English announcements — used to more with other operators
Late flight, solid support
Flight delayed and I was knackered with a dodgy back, so I booked after a poor previous trip. Gatwick pickup was prompt. The guide stayed helpful and calm the whole way.
Airport meet sorted my nerves
I was anxious about booking alone — proper nervous — but when the guide met me at the airport and stuck with us till we flew home, all that worry vanished. Felt genuinely looked after, no stress.
Nearly seamless delivery
Booked a short break and use their itineraries for work trips too; staff kept me updated during packing and after delivery of tickets, which turned up early — surprised how personal and reliable.
Solid solo trip
Worth it — a practical, no-nonsense solo holiday. The guide knew her stuff, staff were polite and the hotel felt genuinely 4*. I first saw the tour on the operator's site and told a mate.
Fjords stuck in my tea
sun, considerate guide and a chilled bunch of 24. The cruise between Oslo and Bergen was a highlight and now I trip over photos on the fridge (and waffle about it at work).
Sun, service and a few bumps
I went on this trip because my back was killing me and I needed a proper break (after a rubbish trip). Sue, the tour director, really delivered — helpful, stayed late, sorted things. The plan and pre-trip info arrived on time. Not flawless (a late ferry), but overall brilliant.
Unexpectedly cosy trip
I went because I needed a break after months' slog at work and a dodgy group trip. Felt oddly at home. Coach was snug, beds firm but fine, and the fjord boat really rather lovely in drizzle. Tour leader looked after us. Not flawless but worth it.
Nearly gave up
Was halfway to giving up when they finally got back to me — a bit slow at first. I’d sent emails that sat unread, no auto-reply, and other firms usually answer quicker, so I was sceptical. Then someone rang and sorted the details and I relaxed. Not perfect, but that’s when I felt properly satisfied.
Amazing sights, meals not so much
limited choices and the hotel food felt a bit flat, sadly.
Nearly didn't book it
Halfway through the first morning I realised my worries about river cruising were misplaced. I'd hesitated for months—price, crowding, value—but once onboard last April the staff were helpful, especially tour manager Caroline, who sorted everything. Food was reliably good, cabin surprisingly roomy, crew even fluent English. Not flawless—occasional slow service—but overall a very relaxing and safe holiday.
Hot start, smooth sailing after
mixed-up terminals, an hour wasted before check-in and no local guide in Lyon in 39°C, very stressful. Then it settled and worked.
A surprisingly calm safari
attentive, cheeky with the kids, and patient with my dodgy back when I struggled up the hides. The scenery blew me away and we ticked off four of the big five, which felt lucky. Little treats kept turning up, and practical tips: pack both warm layers and summer shirts for July/August, and bring cash for tips — envelopes were provided so you hand over at the end. Properly relieved and grateful.
Small-group gem
knowledgeable guides who seemed to know exactly where to spot animals, and a small group so it didn’t feel crowded. The lodge was comfy, food tasty and staff really helpful, though rooms were a bit basic and one morning felt rushed. Not perfect, but I’d recommend it; bring earplugs and decent shoes.
