Halfway through the consultation I realised I was already sceptical, and that scepticism didn’t go away — if anything it grew. I’d gone to a well-known private clinic for a minor rash and the doctor steered the conversation towards a colleague’s skincare line. She talked about dry skin and stepped through my routine, asking what I used, then offered a formula from that clinic-associated brand. I’d seen the range on their shelf when I walked in, and a receptionist had casually mentioned the line beforehand, so there was some social proof. That, and the clinic setting, made me pause but not enough to refuse on the spot.
