staff turnover is high, so coaches change often and my son kept having to get used to someone new (not ideal for confidence). Emotionally, I was irritated rather than angry — more let down, if that makes sense. All in all I’d warn others to double-check cancellations and keep records; a phone call back from their admin would have solved it, but that didn’t happen.
Half good, half messy
he genuinely enjoys going and will chat about "teacher" at bedtime, so credit where it’s due, the kids do seem to have fun. On the flip side, the ratio is often a problem — I’ve seen six little ones with one adult more than once, and honestly that’s stressful to watch. He ends up at the back of the line, barely floating while the teacher explains something to the front three (then the front three get to practise, and the others miss out). It feels uneven and repetitive — some kids get the turns, others don’t.
I also don’t love that most instructors seem quite new (no offence) and progress trackers are unreliable. Their online notes sometimes show tasks ticked that he hasn’t done, and miss things he does every week. That lack of consistency — plus changing rooms that never seem clean — makes me regret signing up at times. One bit of good news: a trainee once stayed late to help him with a float and that surprised me, actually helpful and patient.
If I had a suggestion: keep a proper consistent tracker per session, and sort the hygiene in the changing area; simple fixes that would make a big difference. Also, be clear about their holiday payment policy — I wasn’t expecting to have to pay to keep his place. I’d think twice before recommending, unless they tighten up those two things.Damp towels and a daft policy
she was upset, tears and all. The manager asked for a “valid reason” for a refund, as if a sullen five‑year‑old isn’t one. Oddly, the coach on deck was great — calm, patient and actually brilliant with the kids — so you can see why I’m torn. It’s clear people on the poolside do a decent job, but the office side seemed rigid and a bit cold. If you’ve got a rigid policy you should at least be human about it, or warn parents up front. My advice: get cancellation terms in writing, and don’t rely on a quick phone call to sort things. We probably won’t go back (not because of the instructor — she was lovely) but because dealing with the admin left a sour taste. Small place, decent teaching, poor customer-facing flexibility. A shame, really.
Soggy routine
ask for a written timetable and insist on regular written progress notes before you commit. I hope they sort it, but at the moment I can't recommend this as reliable.
Properly surprised
my child is more confident in the water and I sleep easier now. If you’re picky about admin or spotless toilets this might frustrate you, but if your priority is decent teaching and your kid actually learning to swim, it’s been a solid choice for us. I’d say go in with your eyes open about the admin and the cost, but expect the actual lessons to be decent. Small emotional win here — relieved more than anything.
