high blood pressure and early signs of diabetes. Oddly calm moment when they told me, and then everything got messy. My GP didn’t take the advice seriously and basically waved me away, which was frustrating and a bit ridiculous given the evidence on paper. I ended up in an emergency centre where the doctor sent me straight to a cardiology ward; apparently I was close to something much worse. Two days on medication and it was obvious I couldn’t rely on feeling unwell as a cue.
What I want to pick out is the meds bit — being told I’d be on BP drugs for life, then getting off them in about three months. That’s the one thing I keep coming back to. I sleep better now, cycle around 50 miles a week (commuting and a couple of long rides at the weekend), and my daily energy levels simply improved. It’s not magic, you do have to stick with it, but the programme feels practical and humane. Would recommend if you want results without extreme diets or feeling constantly deprived.
