I actually stumbled on Online Therapy UK when a colleague mentioned their experience over lunch. My first counsellor was in training and helpful, but I could tell she was still early — so after a break I asked to be matched with someone who'd push me more. Andrea was the match and we've worked together for over a year. I knew I was satisfied after one session when a few things clicked and I left feeling lighter — not overnight, but it stuck. Thomas, the coordinator, is warm and quick to reply, and everyone else I've met has been the same. I'm glad I gave it a go and I recommend them to friends.
When it finally clicked
calm, unhurried, actually listening — none of that ticking-off-the-techniques vibe. What made me properly satisfied was that pinch-point when a pattern I’d accepted for ages suddenly felt tweakable, like, I could actually do something about it. She mixes that gentle, person-centred way of working with talk of brain plasticity and practical ways to change wiring, which, yes, sounds a bit clinical but it worked for me. It’s not perfect — sometimes sessions leave me a bit raw or I wish they were longer — but I leave feeling lighter and more directed. I’m still seeing her and would tell a mate to give it a go if they’re ready.
Worth the time, honestly
I’d recommend it, no hesitation. I was sceptical at first because I wanted a quick fix, but actually it worked better than I thought. A colleague at work recommended them — she wouldn’t shut up about how useful it was — so I signed up. Booking was dead easy and whenever I needed to move a session Thomas (who deals with admin) got back to me fast, which I appreciated. My therapist, Joe, pushed me in a good way; sometimes I bristled, sometimes I argued, but I could say when something didn’t land and he’d adjust. One thing that surprised me: phone sessions while I walked the neighbourhood were allowed and somehow that made it easier to open up. Not always pretty progress, I still wanted instant results (old habits), but being able to be honest about the days I baulked at therapy helped a lot. There was no judgement and, crucially, it didn’t break the bank — actually affordable, so I could keep going longer than I expected. That’s rare. I’ve already told a few friends and would recommend it if you want something thoughtful, practical and not preachy.
A steady anchor when I needed it
I was proper sceptical before booking — therapy felt like a big unknown and I'd had one or two awkward experiences with counsellors in the past, so I kept putting it off. The doubts were about money, time and whether I'd even click with someone. Turns out I needn't have worried so much. From the first session Helen made things feel normal and safe, not clinical, and I could actually talk. She's good at listening without rushing, and she nudges you to see different angles, which I liked. The practical bits she suggested — small exercises, ways to handle a bad day — were straightforward and actually useful. Sometimes I left thinking "that helped" and other times it was more subtle, but there was always progress, even if slow. Booking and reminders were easy, sessions generally started on time, and she was flexible when I needed to move things around. If I had a niggle it would be that notes or follow-ups didn't always arrive immediately, but that's a tiny thing compared with how much calmer I feel now. I'm really glad I went for it — the initial nerves faded after a couple of sessions and now I recommend her to friends without hesitation.
