    Not what I expected

I wouldn’t use them again. That’s the short version. We hired this firm via a broker so it wasn’t really our pick, and the whole job turned into one long, frustrating wait with more dodgy communication than helpful updates. I’d packed a week’s worth of meds and essentials because the contract said a single-owner truck, 500 miles a day, four to five days — so I planned for seven days just in case. In reality, the whole lot took well over two weeks and there were damages, so that planning felt sensible in the end.
What really soured things for me wasn’t just the delay, it was how customer service handled — or didn’t handle — things. The person we dealt with (call her Jennifer) was argumentative, spoke over us, and several times ignored calls afterwards. At times it felt like we were being placated with whatever answer sounded easiest rather than given straight facts. On top of that we were asked to remove an early review before we’d even got our things, and told the delivery would be delayed if we didn’t — which felt like being strong-armed. I’m not an expert on legal terms, but that’s how it came across to us and it was upsetting.
The drivers who actually picked up and dropped off our load were brilliant — quick, careful, and proper professionals. Ironically, they weren’t employees of the company we’d been dealing with, and that says something. The truck we paid for was supposed to be a 26-foot, owner-operated vehicle; what turned up at the end was a much smaller, packed-to-the-rafters rig, and a number of items were crushed. We’ve filed claims with the insurance for the damaged goods and are sorting that out now.
I’m a little relieved it wasn’t worse — things could have been lost altogether — and I’m thankful the drivers who handled the physical move did a good job. But the lack of honest, consistent communication and the switch of vehicles several times left us cross and out of pocket for peace of mind. If you’re moving and reliant on quick, guaranteed timing, factor in a lot of slack — and be ready to chase them. All in all: some things went right, some very much did not. Use with caution and make sure you’re comfortable with the broker arrangement before you commit.

Moving day and the long paperwork shuffle

compact, sun through the window in the morning, the kind of place you could still call 'home' if you blinked twice. Clearing it out at 74 (yes, me) was a proper workout — I lugged sofas, boxed the odd china cup, found socks I didn't know she owned — and despite the hassle I felt strangely glad to have it done. It matters, you know, to leave a place looking cared for.
What annoyed me was the next part: the sale via the housing provider has been like pushing treacle uphill. Exit report done, small refurb jobs noted, yet nothing much happened for weeks. That limbo was the worst — daily fees ticking on while the sale was stalled, which pinched her finances until the sale money could be turned into the deposit they wanted. I kept thinking, surely someone could have pushed a bit harder, or at least left a note. There was a manager on leave and apparently nothing moved (bureaucracy at its charming best). Still, despite the delays, the flat itself held up well; the minor repairs are straightforward and will be fine when sorted.
On the brighter side, the people at the new place have been patient and kind, and my sister seems calmer now, which is a relief. I'm grateful it all seems salvageable rather than ruined — once the paperwork catches up and the refurb is done, the finances should balance and visits will be easier to arrange. I wish the sale process had been quicker and a bit more human, but at least we aren't in permanent chaos. So yes, mixed feelings: proud that we managed the clear-out, frustrated at the slow admin, but quietly happy it looks like we'll get there in the end.

    Scammed-sense kicked in

I shut the message, made a list of questions, and then, rather than reply, I started digging. Within half an hour the signs stacked up. No verifiable catalogue on Spotify under their name, inconsistent Instagram followers (lots of bots), similar templated DMs sent to a bunch of friends, and crucially no Companies House entry. That last bit made me breathe out properly — the little win was real. I felt satisfied because I hadn't rushed, I didn't give anything away, and I could point others to what to look for. There was an unexpected bright spot too: a tiny typo in their "contract" that, silly as it sounds, was a neat giveaway that someone hadn't bothered to have legal counsel look over it. Also, a moderator on a small artist forum I follow checked a screenshot and flagged the exact same wording — turned out several people had been contacted the same week. That sense of community helping to confirm my hunch made the whole experience feel less personal and more useful. I'm not claiming I'm some sleuth, just that being cautious paid off. The service they offered — or pretended to — was rubbish and predatory; if you ask for money up front for "activation" or "legal fees", walk. Real labels invest in acts, they don't ask you to fund them. I needed this because of a previous bad experience where I did hand over cash to someone who vanished; that sting made me slower to trust and, in this case, it saved me. I did report the account, warned a few mates, and even dropped a short post in a musician group — enough people replied with "thanks, saved me" to make the fuss worth it. So, mild satisfaction: I didn't get any money back (obviously), but I avoided losing any more, and I learned to trust certain checks. If you're an independent artist, give yourself the five minutes to check a company's registration, their streaming catalogue, and whether they reach out with vague praise instead of referencing a specific song. It felt good to turn panic into a little victory, and that was the moment I knew I was satisfied.
