I want to like this place — I really do — but the experience has been patchy. I needed a few things while moving and wanted to buy second-hand as it felt better for the planet and my wallet, plus it’s for charity, so I kept trying. At the same time I had some deadlines and needed clothes that actually fit. The positives first: there are genuine bargains and some items are lovely, so I kept returning in the hope of good luck. Why it’s a pain: fragile bits are only marked inside the branded box, so the post office have no clue and things arrived smashed more than once. Sizes are hit-and-miss too — on at least one order an item was labelled XS but the online listing said medium, which is annoying and wastes time. Also, they’ll take payment, then sometimes a week later tell you they can’t find the item and will refund — fair enough — except their refund maths is odd. If you used a voucher and return one item from a multi-item order they seem to knock off the whole discount against that item, which can leave you with less back than you paid or worse, hypothetically owing money. It’s like basic arithmetic wasn’t applied. I’m enthusiastic about the concept and keep hoping they sort stock control and refund logic, but until they do I can’t wholeheartedly recommend shopping here, even though I want to.
A small shop, a messy refund
he said bring it back, he’d note it for the team and I could have a refund. That seemed sensible and calm and removed the worry straight away, so I went in.
Trouble started in person. The woman on the counter and the manager didn't pick up the context from the phone call, or perhaps the note wasn't clear — I don't know. They wanted me to check batch numbers, to open everything, and got quite worked up when I said I didn't want to risk any of it at all; I just wanted to return the lot. The assistant got loud and impatient, and there was an odd moment where people who weren't involved came over and started telling us to “love one another”, which was more patronising than helpful. There was a lot of unnecessary till arithmetic while I stood there, which made it feel like they were counting rather than resolving.
In the end I left the chocolate there because I couldn't be arsed to argue any more, and I left with only a fraction of the money back — a quarter of what I'd paid. I had offered to donate half since it's a charity; that was fine with me, but the whole exchange left me more upset about how little effort went into understanding a straightforward safety concern. It wasn't even that anyone was rude in a shocking way, more like nobody had the patience to follow the simple sequence we had agreed on over the phone.
A friend later rang to say she’d checked and the branch hadn't put the returned bars back on the shelves, which suggests they did the right thing eventually but it felt like everything could have been handled calmly while I was there. I use Oxfam shops often for bits and pieces and I want to support them, but this visit was a lesson in how small administrative things can sour a customer for good. I'm bruised by the lack of basic communication and I won't be returning to that particular branch.Misleading listing, kept the book anyway
it’s a rare edition so I chose to hang on to it. Oxfam wouldn’t even offer a small refund or a goodwill gesture, which felt stingy. To be fair, the parcel arrived on time and the book itself was in good condition, so not everything was bad — that’s why I’m slightly glad I kept it. I’ve had better luck with other charity shops where they were honest or quick to sort things out, so this stood out in a negative way. Overall, I won’t be using their listings for special items again and I’d warn friends to double-check photos and ask questions before buying. Small things like accurate descriptions matter.
Quietly impressed after a rocky start
if someone’s role is likely to matter, why isn’t there cover? Why let things slip?
Anyway, where it might have stayed as a small saga, Alex from Support Services turned it around. She actually listened, escalated it to the right manager, and followed up personally with a call to update us. She made practical changes so it didn’t feel like a one-off promise; you could tell she pushed for some fixes. That kind of response restored my confidence — not all organisations handle a mistake this way, and it matters. So yes, the process was messy at first, but the human response afterwards was good and thoughtful. My takeaway: if you’re thinking of applying, be prepared to chase once or twice, and don’t assume silence means acceptance. Ask for a direct contact number early on. It would be good if the organisation recognised staff like Alex properly and tightened up cover for people on leave. Overall, relieved it worked out; still slightly annoyed by the initial lapse, but glad it was salvageable.Unique handcrafted jewellery
I'm a loyal customer of the Oxfam Online Shop and I recently bought a unique handcrafted jewellery piece from their website. However, I've been really let down by their customer service. I returned the item for a refund and it's been a ridiculous four weeks before the refund was processed. On top of that, they're asking me to remove a PayPal dispute to speed up the refund process, which I think is completely unreasonable. The lack of efficiency and communication from their customer service team is really disappointing, so I won't be shopping with them again.
Quick email reply
I just wanted to say thanks for getting back to me so quickly, Oxfam customer service team. It really means a lot to feel like my thoughts are being listened to and appreciated. Your fast response to my email made me feel like my worries were being taken seriously, which I really appreciate. It's really good to see Oxfam doing their bit to help out in tough situations, like the conflicts happening in Israel right now. Plus, the donation setup on their website is really easy to use and understand, so I had no trouble chipping in to support their efforts.
Charity shop experience
I had a brilliant time shopping at an online charity shop the other day. The website was a doddle to use, and they had a fab range of stuff to choose from. Checking out was a breeze, and my order turned up right on time and in top-notch condition. It was clear they took care in packing everything up nice and safe for delivery - top marks all round!
Various items from Oxfam Online Shop
As someone who shops at Oxfam Online Shop, I must say I've always been impressed by the great choice and quality of items they have on offer. It's not just about shopping, but knowing that your money is going towards a good cause, helping those who are in need. It's run by volunteers who put in a lot of hard work to support the less fortunate, so it's important to appreciate that. Some people may find fault with the service or prices, but it's key to see the bigger picture - every purchase at Oxfam is making a positive impact and helping to change lives for the better.
Second-hand clothing
I bought some pre-loved clothes online the other day and I was really happy with what I received. The quality was great and matched up with the description perfectly. Everything was in good nick and the photos on the website were spot on, which made choosing what I wanted a lot easier.
My purchase was a super important charity donation.
Oxfam is amazing for helping people in need worldwide! The staff in the shop are really friendly and make us feel at home. The manager is really cool too, always keeping us updated on how our donations are making a difference. Poverty is a huge issue, but Oxfam is working hard to change that.
Volunteering information session
I recently had the joy of meeting two volunteers from the online shop I had ordered from and I have to say, it was a wonderful experience. Ayma and Mumina were both incredibly passionate and well-informed about the organisation's mission, and they kindly took the time to explain everything to me in great detail. This truly made a positive impression on me, and I felt an even stronger bond to the cause after our chat. I am truly thankful for their commitment and eagerness to share their knowledge with me.
Donation to help people in need
I donated a little bit to help those in need, and honestly, it just made me feel so good. The man who picked it up was really kind, and it just inspired me to do even more to lend a hand. I reckon it's just really important to help out whenever we're able to.
Awesome items from Oxfam Online Shop
This shop is really great, they've got loads of stuff to choose from. The prices are fair and the quality is top-notch. It's always clean and has a really welcoming feel to it.
DVD set purchase
I bought a DVD set online not long ago, wanting to add it to my collection. It was supposed to be in 'as new' condition, so I was happy to pay a bit extra for that. The delivery was quick and the DVDs looked okay. But when I opened it, the smell was strong - like it had come from a home of a smoker. The case even had some yellow marks. It was really disappointing to get something that wasn't what I was expecting.
Second-hand clothing purchase
The clothes I got from this shop were really cool and stylish. The best bit was they were second-hand, so I felt like I was being sustainable and helpful to the environment. It's great that the money goes to a good cause and supports people in need. I enjoy looking through the different items they have, and it makes me happy to know my purchase is making a positive impact on someone's life.
Vintage dress purchase
I just bought a vintage dress from Oxfam Online Shop and I have to say, I was really impressed by the quality and uniqueness of the item. I really appreciate the effort they put into selecting such special pieces to sell. The prices might differ based on the brand or make, but it's definitely worth it for a good cause. The customer service was top-notch and I felt really valued. The delivery was quick and the dress arrived in perfect condition. All in all, it was a fantastic experience!
Unwanted charity donation request
I wanted to share something that happened recently that really bothered me. My husband got some emails and a letter from a charity thanking him for supporting them. The weird thing is, he never actually donated or bought anything from them. They even asked him to sign up for Gift Aid on donations he never made. It's made me worry about privacy and protecting our data.
Advent calendar purchase
I bought an advent calendar in early November, but didn't get it until halfway through December! The shipping note was printed on the 9th, so it wasn't Royal Mail's fault. Plus, they charged me £3.95 for postage on a £3.99 item! It's just crazy. What's even the point of having an advent calendar when most of the days have already gone by?
Variety of items
I popped onto the online shop the other day to have a browse at what they had in stock. I must say, I was quite impressed by the wide variety of products they had on offer, ranging from clothes to accessories to bits and bobs for the home. The quality of the items really stood out to me, and I managed to find some one-of-a-kind pieces that I wouldn't have stumbled upon elsewhere. The website was user-friendly and I had a hassle-free shopping experience all in all.
Sustainable clothing purchase
I recently bought some sustainable clothing from the Oxfam Online Shop and I've got to say, I was really impressed with the range they had. The clothes were top quality and it felt great knowing that my purchase was going towards a good cause. The website was simple to use and checking out was a breeze. All in all, my shopping experience with Oxfam Online Shop was really positive.
