Pretty disappointed with the preloaded SD, not the handheld

don’t buy the extra pre‑loaded SD card from GogameGeek — at least not the one I got. I bought the Mangmi Air X because I wanted a plug‑and‑play retro handheld, plain and simple. I’m rubbish at adding games to an SD card, no patience to learn the ins and outs, and I’ve got a bad back that makes fiddling with tiny files and adapters a proper pain. So paying a bit extra for a ready‑to‑go 256GB card seemed sensible. Turns out that sensible choice was where most of the stress came from, not the device itself. The handheld — the Mangmi Air X — is actually a decent bit of kit. Solid feel, screen is fine, and it boots up without drama. That surprised me because I’d read so many glowing YouTube takes that it’d somehow be all hype. The surprise was that the hardware lived up to some of that buzz; the problem was what came on the SD card and how it was set up. The card arrived with a QC pass certificate and a list of games, so I expected at least the basics to work. Instead I found a mess. There were Wii, PS2 and GameCube titles on the card despite countless reviewers repeatedly saying the Snapdragon 662 won’t handle those systems well — that warning was in the reviews I’d watched, yet the seller still included large files for them. Most of the big PS2 files simply wouldn’t run, which meant a huge chunk of the card was occupied by useless data. Worse, the supposedly pre‑configured retro sections — PSP, Dreamcast, N64, DS — were all set up incorrectly. PSP showed as the first retro system, and it should’ve been the handheld’s strong suit, but none of the 45 PSP games on my card launched. Dreamcast had 53 titles listed; none were playable. N64, DS, the lot — all wrong. So I spent extra for storage and convenience and got convenience in name only. Beyond the technical failures there were odd things that raised my blood pressure: while trying to launch Doom 64 it momentarily attempted to boot and then an advert popped up — a Hotels.com ad. That’s not something I expect on a paid pre‑loaded card, and it felt like a slap in the face. Communication with GogameGeek has been slow (it’s Chinese New Year at the time of writing), so I’m still waiting on a proper fix or at least a clear explanation. Service could be better: I hoped for a quick resolution or a replacement card that had been properly checked. On the plus side, I did find one or two small pleasant surprises — the handheld’s menus are straightforward and a couple of non‑preloaded titles I added myself later ran perfectly, which confirmed my suspicion that the device can handle what reviewers claimed for certain systems. So the failure is squarely on the preloaded content and the setup, not the hardware. If you’re like me and want a preloaded solution because you don’t want to mess with ROMs and emulators, be cautious: this seller’s preloaded card wasn’t properly configured in my case. If you’re comfortable adding games yourself or fixing emulator paths, the Mangmi Air X itself may be worth it; otherwise wait until the seller proves they can supply a correctly set up card. I’ll update if GogameGeek resolves the issues, but right now this was an expensive, frustrating detour that could have been avoided with a basic QA check.
