Wrong loan wheels, slow to put right

I went in on a Tuesday with the car booked in for alloys and, to be fair, the booking felt thorough — I’d sent photos, confirmed I run 19‑inch wheels with spacers, the lot. First impression was that they’d taken the time to note everything, so I left thinking it would be fine. It wasn’t. They fitted loan wheels that visibly stuck out and were too large for the arches. When I asked about the size I was told not to drive fast. Not helpful. I drove away and the arch kept scraping; honestly it was distracting and made the car difficult to handle. Every bump and every roundabout the same thing — scraping, scraping. It affected how I drove and how comfortable I felt in the car. I expected a place that repairs alloys to be a bit more on the ball with loan wheels. They knew about the spacers beforehand, so shifting the blame to that in follow-up messages felt a bit weak — if spacers are a problem, say so when you book or ask for the original bolts. Spacers are common; you should plan for them. The only offer they made afterwards was a refund of £70 for a buckle they admitted to — which I pointed out barely covers my petrol for the extra trips back and forth, let alone the day of work I missed. You could say I was a bit surprised they offered any money at all, that was unexpected, but it didn’t come close to making the situation right. Customer service took a while to respond properly and it all felt defensive rather than constructive. If I had to pick something slightly positive it would be that staff on the desk were polite when I first arrived; that’s about it. Overall the delivery of the loan wheels and the follow-up service were disappointing and inconvenient. I’d warn anyone to double‑check every detail and insist they show you the actual spare wheels before you drive off.

    Bit of a love-hate thing

I still love a lot of Google's stuff, but their support pages? Properly annoying. I needed to sort a subscription billing mistake and swap out an expired card, so I went straight to my account expecting a quick fix. Turns out, finding an actual way to contact a person felt like a scavenger hunt. That said, the apps themselves — Maps, Chrome, the lot — are brilliant and I use them every day, so I wasn’t about to ditch them. I kept digging and, to my surprise, eventually stumbled on a hidden chat option after a few clicks. That was a nice little win and honestly made my day a bit. Still, getting there took longer than it should have; I spent far more time than I wanted clicking through FAQs and pages that felt like they were designed to put you off. If Google streamlined a clear phone or chat route from the account page, that would be perfect. Overall: useful tools, annoying support journey, but a surprisingly helpful agent once I found them — so mixed feelings, but mostly positive.

    Sorted without fuss

I wasn't expecting to be impressed so quickly. After the initial call about a specialist vehicle I was wary — dealers can be a mixed bag. The turning point came after I'd driven the car home and a small, unpredictable fault showed up. That moment decided it for me. Peter rang straight away, organised collection, left us a courtesy car and promised to sort it. He actually did. The repair was done without fuss and the car was returned to my doorstep. Throughout he was calm, polite and practical. Communications were clear, often quicker than I expected. It wasn't flawless — there was a little back and forth on timing — but it felt honest and efficient. If you're buying something specialist, ask for Peter and be upfront about timings. I recommend them. A professional experience that felt human, and that's worth a lot. Small things, but they matter.

The 15GB feels like a trap

the free 15GB is misleading and it nudges you to pay. I don’t like it. I keep most stuff on my own device and yet automatic backups and heaps of photos quietly gobble that allowance. One day Gmail warns you, Photos stops showing new pictures, and then there’s a polite prompt to buy extra space. The monthly fee is small, sure, but it’s persistent and suddenly everyone’s paying a little. It’s a business model more than a favour. The service itself is fine when it runs. Syncing works and access is easy. But the defaults, the lack of clear opt-outs and the fiddly way to get everything off their cloud are irritating. Exporting takes time and you feel pushed back towards signing up. So: check your backup settings now, don’t assume ‘free’ means free for your use case, and turn off uploads if you want to keep control. I’d like clearer warnings and simpler tools to keep my data purely local. It’s useful tech, but imperfect. Good enough for many, annoying for those who don’t need cloud storage.

    Surprisingly alright in the end

my play streak dropped to zero a couple of times, emails weren’t answered and PlayPass kept changing games so I couldn’t finish them. I even had a £20 voucher outstanding and Google support basically shrugged. That said, delivery itself was fine — no issues getting what I ordered — and after a bit of nagging customer service did step in and sort the voucher and the account glitch. It wasn’t smooth, there were confusing messages and it took longer than it should, but they fixed it eventually, so I’m relieved. Ordering felt clunky compared to other providers I’ve used, and the way the games shift is annoying, but the overall outcome was usable rather than a total waste. Price was okay, not brilliant. If you’ve had worse with other companies (where you never hear back), this is better, but don’t expect perfection. I’ll use them again, cautiously. Happy it wasn’t a complete disaster, though they need to tighten up communication and be clearer about play rules.
