Overall, I was oddly relieved — not the total disaster I half-expected, though still fairly disappointing. I opened the mystery box the evening it turned up and my first impression was that it was stuffed with proper old kit. There was an actual SCART lead (yes, a SCART), a car phone holder for a phone model Samsung stopped making a while back, a bunch of wired earphones and several USB‑B cables — basically gear that feels five to ten years out of date. I checked the house and not a single device has a SCART socket, so that was pretty pointless. To be fair, a couple of cables are useful and the packaging arrived neat, so I'm glad it wasn't absolutely useless, but most items don't match anything I own. For £50 I expected more recent, usable stuff. So, slightly relieved it wasn't worse and thankful for the few useful bits, but honestly I'd warn anyone thinking of buying this — it's a gamble and not the best value.
Filter-fit frustration
doesn't really sit right in my Melitta, even though the size seemed correct. I didn't return it — postage would have eaten the saving — and after a bit of careful heating and trimming the rim it now works well enough. Bit of a faff, and I started sceptical, but in the end fairly satisfied.
