In the end, these were an expensive let-down. I bought my Hiut jeans in January 2021, expecting them to become the dependable pair I’d wear with everything. After one normal machine wash, though, the shape went rather wonky and pale wash lines appeared all over them. Jeans aren’t a museum piece in my wardrobe; they get worn, washed and worn again. That’s why this was such a surprise, especially given the premium price and all the lovely marketing. I’ve had cheaper denim survive years of abuse, including a regrettable paint-splattered weekend. I emailed Hiut for care advice, but heard nothing back. That silence made the advertised guarantee feel less reassuring.
