Curt reply, surprisingly good hot chocolate

I wandered into Lola's at Victoria after a late shift, craving popcorn and a bit of normality. Asked quietly if they took my Blue Light Card. The assistant snapped back that they only accepted NHS, very blunt. Felt odd. I'm ex-forces and not fussed about freebies, just manners. It's the second time I've had that clipped tone there, so I'm not rushing back for a third. Oddly, the hot chocolate was really good — unexpected perk. I'll still tell mates and old service pals to watch out. A bit more training on the shop floor would do wonders. Small place, decent snacks, just dress the staff in a smile, please.

    Subscription letdown

I was staring at the cupboard thinking I can't keep remembering to buy pads, so I signed up for the subscription — a bit hesitant, because subscriptions can be hit-or-miss. At first I thought 'great, sorted', but the hits were mostly misses. They sent random things instead of the pads, once even a bottle of lube which was mortifying for my eleven-year-old. My last order was for two boxes and only one arrived. Customer service didn't seem to read the message, told me to check with neighbours as if that was the issue. Cancelled the sub; still annoyed, still letting my daughter down.

    Relief after a rocky start

I realised I was actually happy the moment I made it through a full workday without having to check or fidget. Had to hunt for a new brand after my usual one was discontinued and the first few tries were a mess — one even seemed to unravel and left fibres that made me nervous and sore. I swapped sizes and gave it another go. When it felt secure and pain-free I breathed out. It’s not flawless. Sometimes the fit still feels odd and I’d like better materials. But for day-to-day life — meetings, the commute, a quick gym session — it works well enough. Could be improved, but it does the job.

Spotted them on a mate's shelf

I first noticed Lola tucked behind shampoo at my mate's flat and thought, hmm, cotton-only — worth a try. Ten years later I'm still here, mostly because their delivery and customer service actually make life easier. I paused my subscription when I was pregnant and it was dead simple to resume later, no faff, which felt like a small miracle at the time. Once I needed to change the delivery address last minute and live chat sorted it in minutes, plus the parcel turned up a day early with a tiny sample tucked in — unexpected and oddly cheering. Products have been consistent, but honestly what keeps me recommending them to friends is the service and reliable delivery. Price is fair enough, a touch higher than supermarket stuff, but for me the convenience and care make it worth it.

Mostly great, but not from their site

they’re noticeably dearer on Lola’s own site than in shops, so I now buy from retailers. Also bought a pack of pregnancy tests to keep for emergencies last autumn — sensible, I thought — only to find they expired in six months. Who uses four tests that fast? I asked for a refund and wasn’t offered one, which left a sour taste. If you’re after a greener option and don’t mind hunting for a better price, give them a go — I still reach for these when they’re on offer. So, recommend the product but not buying straight from Lola.
