I was half-sipping my tea at the kitchen table when I realised the whole thing had finally been sorted — and honestly, that little rush of relief made me proper happy. Mum had treated me to a lovely pair of clogau earrings for my 30th, and when one of the stems snapped on arrival it felt like a punch to the gut. There was a long back-and-forth, a couple of phone calls, and yes, it was a bit of a faff sending things back and waiting for an “investigation”. I won’t pretend it was smooth. But what mattered was when the money actually landed back in her account — that’s the exact second I knew we were sorted and could move on. I wear small jewellery every day, so I’d been looking forward to wearing them with jeans or when I pop out for coffee, and not having that was annoying. In the end we used the refund to get a quieter, similar pair from a local shop, and it’s actually worked out fine — I wear them all the time now. There’s a human in me that’s a bit miffed about the hassle, but the outcome was decent and fair in the end, which is why I feel upbeat writing this. If you’re buying jewellery as a present, keep proof of everything and be prepared to chase — but don’t lose hope, it can end well.
Little charm, little drama
By the time I opened the box I was already running late for packing, so seeing the little silver charm felt like a small treat — it’s a lovely design and the polish caught the light nicely. Then I spotted the chip. Not huge, but obvious if you look closely. I’d bought it from Mococo because I wanted something special before I left the UK for a move, so timing mattered. I emailed their customer service straight away with clear photos and a brief note explaining I’d be leaving on 27 October and couldn’t hang around for a slow back-and-forth. At first there was silence; only after I posted a candid comment online did they reply and start talking about sending the piece back to Pandora for “inspection”. That insistence on an unnecessary extra step — instead of offering a simple refund or a small discount — was the most annoying bit. They even suggested I ask friends to post it for me while I’m away, which felt like shifting the problem. In the end they did respond and made an effort, but it took too long and showed a lack of consideration. The charm itself is nice and I’d probably shop there again if customer service tightened up and handled things more sensibly.
Soft spot for the design, not for the rest
it took well over a week, bounced back twice and I ended up chasing Royal Mail and Mococo for updates. That part was tedious and stressful.
I’m grateful that at the start the staff were responsive and apologetic — that’s why I hung on. But after they finally got the necklace, they’ve refused a refund, calling the break “accidental damage” and saying I’d used “significant force”. I kept things polite, sent photos and updates as asked, followed instructions to the letter, so being accused like that feels rough. It’s disappointing because the necklace lost its shine for me after all the back-and-forth; I’m wary of wearing it now, which is a shame given how much I paid.
So, mixed feelings: happy with the look and thankful it didn’t go missing, appreciative of the prompt live chat at the start, but really put off by the slow, messy returns and the final refusal to refund. I’ve told them I don’t want the necklace back — don’t fancy being left out of pocket and stressed over it.
