Halfway through setting up a badly mismatched mod pack I caught myself grinning because the control panel actually made sense, and that feels rare. The server boots quick, admin tools are straightforward and I didn't need to be a sysadmin to get friends on. The smaller company vibe shows — tickets feel less like a number and more like a chat, though support isn't instant every time. Compared to the big names who charge loads and give you less, this one hands out slots and doesn't hide fees, so it feels fair. It's not flawless — occasional reboots and odd latency pop up — but for ease and price I'm coming back and that's a small relief.
Nearly talked myself out of it
I was halfway through yet another comparison table in my head when I clicked the buy button. To be honest I fretted — servers are fiddly and I'd been burned by a dodgy host before, but GPortal surprised me. First few hours I expected hiccups, but setup was dead simple; took me less time than making a cup of tea, really. Support actually replied within minutes when I tripped over a mod conflict, and not with corporate waffle but proper steps that fixed it. Pricing isn't rock-bottom, but it didn't feel like daylight robbery either, considering how often I had to chase support elsewhere. The control panel is plain and does the job, nothing flashy, which I liked. The only tiny gripe is I kept checking logs more than I needed to, paranoia I guess. Overall my doubts faded fast — glad I switched, and would recommend if you want something that just works.
Reluctantly sorted it out
their new pay-for-fast-track support is a pain, but in the end they fixed it and I’m sticking around — for now. I’ve been with them for years and expected better. Server went down late evening and the ticket just sat there. No updates, no reasons, nothing until the next afternoon. Made me wonder what would have happened if I’d forked out extra cash for priority. Felt a bit used. They also disputed my feedback on the review site which didn’t help my mood. That said, when they did respond they sorted the issue and explained what went wrong, which was fair. I still don’t like the idea of paid lanes for help, and I’ll probably look at other hosts at some point, but credit where it’s due — the fix worked and customer support, eventually, did its job. Mixed feelings, but slightly relieved. Will keep an eye on billing changes though.
Unexpected downtime nightmare
random downtime with the site claiming all clear, and the support team basically shrugging, saying they don’t know what’s wrong or how long it’ll take. My last server averaged maybe 15% downtime; this new one has already been down for about 14 hours and still counting. It’s infuriating, especially mid-session, and I’d warn anyone — unless you don’t mind surprises, steer well clear.
Slow start, then sorted
reboot, wait, wait some more. I did wait the full 15 minutes as they suggested, and it still didn't feel like progress, more like buying time. Anyway, when someone else picked up after that pause, they actually dug in and found the problem fast. Turns out it was my own error — I’d put the wrong Steam ID in, a proper rookie slip. The second agent, Diana, was clear and practical, fixed it quickly and didn’t make a fuss. Overall the support loop could be tighter, but once you get the right person it’s efficient. I’ve run servers with this provider for years and will keep doing so. Tip for others: double-check your IDs before calling support — it saves time and embarrassment.
Restart roulette
polite, sympathetic replies (“sorry, we’ve reported it”) and then silence. A couple of times my ticket was closed without a follow‑up, so I’d reopen or make a new one just to get any movement. Annoying. Having used other hosts who pick up the phone or at least tell you what’s happening, this was a disappointing contrast. That said, after a bit of pestering (and patience I didn’t know I had) someone actually dug into it and the server was properly restarted. It’s been behaving since, so I’m relieved and a bit grateful — could have ended worse. Bottom line: delivery ultimately worked, but the customer service path there was clunky — too many canned replies and premature closures. I’d use them again, grudgingly, if support improves.
