What should have been a straightforward Florence booking turned into a bit of a headache. I bought two tickets for the Vasari Corridor and Uffizi Gallery for the only Saturday we were due to be in town, but the confirmation came through for the Wednesday before we even arrived in Italy. I honestly can’t see how I’d have selected that date, as it was completely useless to us. I did miss the mistake when the tickets first landed in my inbox, which is partly on me, but still. Trying to sort it out meant going back and forth between Viator and Weekend in Italy, with no real solution. The phone number I was given for Weekend in Italy wasn’t even working. Pretty frustrating, especially as the tickets weren’t cheap.
Cancelled when it mattered most
Looking back, I should have trusted the little doubts I had before booking through them. We bought and paid for two Colosseum tickets in March 2023 for 18 April, expecting a straightforward day in Rome. Then, on the morning of our visit, an email arrived saying the tickets had been cancelled and a refund would be arranged. No refund ever appeared. We spent roughly a year chasing this by email, only to be told Google supposedly needed to return the money, despite there being no way for us to contact them. By then, reasonably priced replacement tickets had gone. We missed the visit and lost the money, which really put a dampener on the trip. I’d book directly elsewhere.
Voucher mess on a weekend trip
Standing outside the Bargello, I realised I'd paid for something I couldn't use. I bought two audio guides from "Weekend in Italy" for €15, got an order confirmation and was told vouchers would follow within 36 hours. They never arrived and my follow-up emails got no reply. In the end the museum sold its own audio guides for €6 at reception, so I just bought those and carried on — worked fine, but wasted time and a bit of money. I use audio guides on short trips all the time, so poor communication like this is really frustrating.
Morning on the rails
wandering canals, popping into tiny boutiques, finishing afternoons with a short boat trip. The B&B felt homely yet a bit grand — big breakfasts, polite staff and that “I could live here” feeling. It’s easy to see why you’d go back. A few small things could be sharper — timings, a bit of attention at check-in — but overall I’m really glad it worked out, and it’s already parked on my list of go-to trips.
