Honestly, I’m glad I went — smaller than I expected but oddly charming in places. First time I’d seen it, a friend had tipped me. Signs were a bit rubbish and animals limited, yet staff were friendly and I left pleasantly surprised, really.
Nearly gave up, glad we stayed
I wasn't sure at first — half the car park was closed so we circled a bit — but once in it was a relaxed day. Animals were easy to spot, displays had useful info and the shop staff were helpful. Grounds were tidy, felt like decent value in the end.
Half-decent day, terrible lunch
I was a bit sceptical about eating on the terrace and I almost brought sandwiches — glad I didn't for the zoo, not for the food. We go to the zoo fairly often as a weekend thing, so I thought I'd give it a go, but the fish arrived cold, mac and cheese dried on top and chips hardly warm. Staff were brusque. Oddly, the canned drinks were actually decent. Didn't fix much though.
More show than animals
Came for the big cats but most were asleep, a few penguins pottering about. Enclosures felt wrong for several species, they looked bored. Cafe only did greasy burgers and pizza, not great. Staff were alright though, helpful on the gate — delivery of our e-tickets was slow and that annoyed us. Price felt too high, but we still found a couple of small highlights.
Unexpectedly good day
I turned up a bit late, middle of the day, feeling rubbish after a rough morning, and honestly wasn't expecting much. But once I was there things settled. The animals felt lively, the lion cubs were absolutely lovely and I ended up taking far too many photos until my phone begged for mercy. The staff were calm and actually helpful, especially the woman in the red jacket near Penguin Beach who went out of her way to help me get a taxi back — I'm still a bit wobbly after a heavy fall so that mattered. Other places have been patchy, so I was proper grateful this time. Made the whole outing worth it.
