I was stuck in Hong Kong with my lot for an extra day, sitting in the airport like everybody else. We had to add another night at the hotel, which felt sore on the wallet. I assumed the travel policy would sort it. It didn't. Claiming felt old-school—form filling, small print, a bit of sighing. The insurer did answer fast though, clear and blunt, and they explained why delays weren't covered. Still annoyed, but at least they were honest and helpful, so I can use them again, cautiously.
Not going back to Brantwood Avenue
I won't be using that branch again — the way my parcels were handled was unacceptable. I went to the Brantwood Avenue Post Office in Dundee last Tuesday to post two mobile phones and had spent ages wrapping them so they'd be safe. The clerk weighed them and, instead of picking up the basket behind him, he chucked one across the counter. The second missed and bounced on the floor. I felt dismissed and a bit angry; not the level of behaviour or service I expect from a UK Post Office.
Timing problem and a dropped call
I was wary ordering this because I'd had a missed delivery before and, crucially, this parcel had chilled medicine so timing mattered. They sent a four‑hour window that came and went; the app then insisted on a delivery date four days earlier — rubbish. I phoned, waited 41 minutes, finally got through and was told it wasn't even out for delivery and I'd get it in three days. Then the call was dropped. So yes, it arrived in the end but late and with stress. Not brilliant service, reliable enough sometimes but room for improvement.
Little extras, big irritation
I noticed this at my small high-street post office the first time I needed to post a parcel for work (a colleague tipped me off after hers was charged extra). Every visit there's some extra service added I didn't ask for — signed-for when I said no, next-day option instead of the two-day I requested. It’s usually only obvious once I’m outside and glance at the receipt, which is maddening, because by then I can’t undo it. I'm going to check at the counter from now on, even if the queue is back to the door. It does the job and staff are polite enough, but the little added charges make it feel sloppy rather than malicious. I suppose it's not terrible overall.
Parcel left hanging
I dropped a parcel at the Post Office (DPD drop-off) because I urgently needed the contents — a replacement back brace for a bad back, so timing really mattered. The tracking later said it hadn’t even been collected. DPD told me the driver had been twice but the branch was closed, and that was during normal opening hours. I asked the Post Office on Twitter and got an email asking for details and saying they’d reply within 15 days. Fifteen days to confirm whether a branch is open? That’s not helpful. After more chasing it did get picked up and eventually delivered, so it works, but the slow, unclear communication and having to phone and message repeatedly made the whole thing much more stressful than it should’ve been.
Town-centre post hiccup but mostly fine
I popped into WH Smiths in Halifax to post a parcel — mid-move and with my back acting up, I really needed it gone that day. The postal area was coned off and at first staff said they were closed due to shortage of people, which was a bit annoying, honestly. After hanging around and a short phone call the manager or someone showed up and a cheerful assistant took care of it. It was a bit of a faff and not very professional-looking, but they sorted the delivery quickly and kept me updated. Not perfect, but it did the job and I’m relieved. Overall, I'd recommend them if you're in a pinch.
Small wins after a bit of a faff
there’s a £1.50 withdrawal fee that the app never mentions. That felt like a sting when I wanted cash, so be prepared. Once past the initial mess the card did what I needed — coffees, market shopping and an awkward taxi that only took cash, all covered without more drama. I’ve even used it for little bits at home since, which is handy. Would be nicer with clearer fees and a visible support number, but on balance it works and that little unblock was a nice relief.
That awkward relief when it finally worked out
the parcel I’d sent to Canada came straight back two weeks later with an “error” note, and nothing had left the UK. I’d posted it through the local post office who’d used Evri, and at first nobody took responsibility. I went round in circles, paid again to resend because the post office said they couldn’t refund — apparently it wasn’t their courier’s fault? I rang Evri and got the usual automation, no proper person, emails went unanswered, drivers shrugged. It was stressful and stupidly expensive for me.
Then, after nagging for a bit longer than I wanted to, a real reply arrived. Evri agreed to sort a refund for the failed first attempt and arranged the reshipment at their cost. That was the moment I breathed out — proper relief, honestly. Still annoyed at the hassle and the time lost, and I’d have preferred the post office to have been clearer up front, but I’m glad it didn’t end with me out of pocket. Would recommend being persistent and keeping receipts — it wasn’t perfect, but it did get sorted in the end.Small saga with a travel card
30 the next morning before the card could be activated. I tried to activate it the next day once I realised that, and then the card got blocked for too many attempts — a bit daft, really. I phoned customer services and the automated system actually activated it, which was a surprise, I wasn't expecting that to work. To check I took £10 out at a local cash machine in the UK and that part was fine, the cash came out. But the account balance now shows £462 remaining from the original £500 — yes, £462 — so about £38 gone for no obvious reason. It's baffling; I've never seen money disappear so fast. If you're thinking of buying one of these, I'd say stick with your own bank card unless you like headaches. I feel ripped off given the cost-of-living squeeze. Small tip: double-check activation windows and keep every receipt, because you might need to chase this up.
Rough ride with their compensation spreadsheets
I wouldn’t recommend working with this team in its current state — the systems and the way they’re run need sorting, fast. I was brought in as an IT Excel developer to support the Horizon compensation programme and almost immediately it was clear things were broken at a fundamental level. I use their spreadsheets every day to try and move compensation payments along, so this isn’t theoretical — it directly affected claimants and my day-to-day work.
Foreign currency exchange
I visited a foreign currency exchange service in the UK recently and I was really let down by the staff there. The people working there were so rude and full of themselves, it's like they think they're better than everyone else. Treating UK money with such disrespect and showing no regard for customers' financial dealings is not on. I won't be going back to any post office for my currency exchange again, in fact, I might even think about setting up my own exchange service with fair prices and good customer care. It's sad to see such lack of professionalism and respect in a place like the UK.
International currency exchange
I was really let down by my experience with this service. I had ordered some foreign currency for an upcoming trip, and it was a complete nightmare from start to finish. The ordering process was so difficult and not at all user-friendly. I had a tough time with the website and had to reach out to customer service several times for help, but their service was also unprofessional and inefficient. The pricing was way too high, with hidden fees that weren't mentioned initially. When my order did eventually arrive, it was late and missing a significant amount of money. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this service to anyone needing to exchange currency.
FX currency exchange
I recently bought foreign currency through this service, and to be honest, it was a bit of a letdown. The ordering process was really frustrating as the website was hard to use and didn't have clear instructions. When I tried to get help from customer service, I spoke to agents who weren't very helpful and didn't seem to know much about what they were doing. They just gave me vague answers that didn't really help me. Overall, I wouldn't suggest this service to anyone who needs a dependable and quick way to exchange currency.
Awful service at the travel money place
I went to this place by the bank to get some travel money, but the staff there were so rude and unhelpful. I tried to be nice and friendly, but they just didn't seem to care. It's not a pleasant experience when people don't treat you well, especially when all you're doing is trying to make a purchase. I definitely won't be returning there anytime soon, that's for certain.
Currency exchange service at Hereford Post Office
I recently popped into the Hereford Post Office to change some currency and honestly, I was pretty disappointed with the whole experience. It seems like every time I swing by, there's a massive line of about 7 people and only one person working the tills. Even trying to use the self-service option doesn't speed things up because I still have to wait for a staff member to come over and finish the transaction. The only good thing about the whole situation is this young lad who's always rushing around and helping out - he's the only one who actually seems to care. But then there's this one lady there who really shouldn't be working with the public. She's rude and looks like she hates her job. I even saw her once just up and leave for lunch with a bunch of people waiting in line, leaving the poor other lady in charge of everything.
Online purchase of travel money
I've just bought some travel money online for my next trip. The website was pretty easy to use and the prices were alright. But the service wasn't great - my order was delayed and it took ages for my money to arrive. It was a bit of a pain, to be honest.
Exchange of foreign currency
I popped into a currency exchange spot in Hayes the other day, and honestly, I was really let down by what went down. The folks working there were totally unprofessional and had a bit of a crappy attitude towards us customers. On top of that, they had a tough time even talking to us in English, and it seemed like they weren't too clued up on how to give good customer service. The place itself was also a bit grubby and just felt like it hadn't been cared for. All in all, I'd say steer clear of that spot if you can.
Currency exchange
I was really let down by this travel money service as a customer. Ordering was a pain, with long waits and confusing instructions. The staff were unprofessional and not very helpful. Plus, the pricing was higher than other services I've used before. To top it off, my currency delivery was delayed, causing me a lot of stress and hassle for my trip. Overall, my experience with this service was not great and I wouldn't suggest it to others.
Recent currency exchange
I recently went to the currency exchange office on Waterloo Road in Cheetham Hill, Manchester and it was not a great experience. The service was really bad and the place always seemed to be short-staffed, especially when it was busy. I would recommend avoiding this branch if you can because the service is slow and you end up waiting for a long time.
Currency exchange purchase
I was really let down by the currency exchange service I used recently. I ordered some currency online, gave all my info, but my package never showed up. This has happened twice now in the last 9 months, and I'm not happy about it. It's just not on to have such bad service repeatedly.
