I put our old hatch on for collection because we needed the driveway back and to stop looking at a car we never use — it did a couple of shopping trips. The initial quote seemed straightforward, but after I accepted I started getting a barrage of emails and calls from other firms, far too many questions about every detail and texts from unknown numbers. It felt like my phone was under siege and my plan to free up space turned into nagging. I ignored the follow-up company's 48‑hour 'cooling off' nonsense and went with a local alternative (recycleacar), who were calm, asked nothing, picked the car up and paid the same. Bit messy, but local team saved the day.
False-start but glad I kept it
I was about to get rid of my battered Focus because we’re moving and I needed the cash quick. The website looked reassuring, clean layout and a figure that seemed sensible, so I went ahead. It felt easy, really, and I was almost relieved, like a weight off. Then they rang back and the figure was nowhere near what I’d seen online. They said the web-quote was only a ballpark after a brief chat about the car. That felt annoying, yes, but oddly it left me smiling in the end because I realised I’d rather keep the car than be fobbed off. So I walked away, a bit miffed but actually quite glad; it suits me, and I didn’t want to rush into a bad deal. Not ideal though.
Halfway-promises and a dodgy chart
rather than a quick call, they texted a lower number and attached a ridiculous line chart as if overnight values just plunged. It felt like a thinly veiled price-drop trick. I appreciated how promptly they’d shown interest and the initial caller was polite, which surprised me and nearly reassured me, but the backtracking killed it. Given how transparent our ad was — loads of photos, honest description — it felt unfair and unprofessional. In the end my doubts didn’t disappear; they were confirmed. I wouldn’t trust them with a straightforward sale unless you like being shuffled round and having numbers changed mid-process.
Not ideal, but it worked
their site trumpets free UK-wide pickup, then they tried to tell me my car was 'out of area' and there'd be extra charges. I pushed back, pointed to the screenshots I'd taken (always take screenshots, seriously), and after a couple of calls they backtracked and arranged the collection. Surprisingly, once the car was loaded they paid up within three hours. That did restore a fair bit of faith. So yes, expect friction: low initial offer, patchy communications, different staff each time. But if you keep records and are persistent they'll sort the pickup and the money turns up fast. My tip: screenshot everything and don't accept 'out of area' without evidence. In the end I was sceptical, then relieved. Would I use them again? Probably only if I had no other choice.
