Mimo podania numeru lotu i zrobienia rezerwacji na właściwy dzień, prawdopodobnie omyłkowo podczas późniejszej edycji została w niej zmieniona data na dzień przed przylotem na lotnisko w Tiranie, jednak po rozmowie z wypożyczalnią Abbycar, na co mam dowód w postaci zapisu na whatsapp, ustaliłem z nimi datę i godzinę odbioru na dzień następny tj w sobotę w nocy. Niestety pracownik firmy Abbycar nie zjawił się na lotnisku, telefonów też w firmie Abbycar nikt nie odbierał. Po kilku godzinach czekania i szukania kogoś ze wspomnianej firmy postanowiłem wynająć auto z innej firmy, oczywiście drożej. Niestety firma Discovercars odmówiła jakiegokolwiek zwrotu zapłaconej przedpłaty i ubezpieczenia, zasłaniając się regulaminem. Oczywiście zdaję sobie sprawę, że mają do tego prawo, jednak była to sytuacja dość specyficzna i firma Discovercars mogłaby przynajmniej częściowo zrekompensować mi poniesioną przeze mnie stratę lub chociaż zaproponować jakieś inne rozwiązanie, niestety pomimo kilkukrotnych rozmów i tłumaczeń odmówili jakiejkolwiek pomocy, w związku z czym czuje się oszukany, zarówno przez firmę Abbycar, która nie wywiązała się z ustaleń oraz przez firmę Discovercars, która odmówiła zwrotu.
Dishonest and unlawful terms and conditions caused us much stress and more than doubled the price of hiring the car. When we came to pick up the car we were told that we cannot get the car unless we have full insurance, as the company has terms in which a UK driving licence holder needs to have an international driving licence as well. This is against the Brexit rules between the UK and EU, which states that UK licences issued while the UK was in the EU were treated as if issued in the EU and it is not lawful to require an international driving licence from holders of the UK driving licence. We were forced to buy the full insurance more than doubling the price of the car hire. Also we were overcharged by not taking into account the deposit we paid.
We travel around 5-8 times a year and always rent cars - never had issues with any of the providers we used.
Unfortunately, Discover Cars failed us dramatically on our recent trip to Madeira.
We booked an economy car in advance for a week for a very attractive price of EUR 160 per week.
On arrival to Madeira the local agent Sur Price told us they don’t have our booking in the system.
We called Discover Cars and explained the issue. The representative was trying to sort things out, but the local agent said the only car they had available was a larger car and we will have to pay extra EUR 350 for it on top of EUR 160.
We’ve had situations in the past where we got upgraded to a larger model, but we never had to pay for it. We asked Discover Cars for their guidance and they suggested to take the car and claim refund of EUR 350 after.
We sent Discover Cars our claim for the refund and after 3 weeks of going backwards and forwards with them on emails and multiple phone calls, they are now not answering emails.
They were trying to get money back from the local agent of theirs, but I don’t understand why we as a client should wait for that as we should be getting a refund from Discover Cars who we made our booking with.
All in all, it’s looks like they have people who would make you feel like they are trying to do something until you tired of perusing your claim and go away.
Very disappointed and we are seeking legal advise to resolve this issue.
Never use Discover cars - You could be overcharged at pick-up and they will not refund you. I was overcharged by more than 200 pounds on pick-up compared to my Discover Cars voucher and 2 months on they still claim they cannot refund - because they say they can't get the right documents from Surprice Car Rentals. It is surely illegal to sell a rental at a certain price, take your money then hold you to ransom for more than agreed at pickup.
YOU WILL HAVE NO PROTECTION IF YOU RENT FROM DISCOVER CARS.
The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association cannot help because Discover Cars is not a member. I have just received this from bvrla:
"Thank you for your email and we are sorry to hear of your difficulties, however both Discover Cars and Surprice Car Rentals are not members of the BVRLA, so are unfortunately outside of our jurisdiction.
Going forward we would recommend that you always rent with a BVRLA member as they must adhere to our Code of Conduct. A list of our members can be found on our website bvrla.co.uk"
Take note and beware Discover Cars!
Do not rent with them. We were accepted to pay double than what was agreed when at the rental office because of not having the right type of credit card, though it was clearly considered accepted in their rental conditions.

Extremely poor service, anybody who considers renting with Discovercars should consider very carefully.
I was left without a car stranded at the airport at night with kids, had to pay over 130 EUR for taxis, figure out the next day that my order is no longer valid and pay twice the price. No car, no service, no answering phone calls, not responding to any emails, not taking any responsibility and after all this still charged me for the booking!
I have ordered a car for me and my family with kids with a late pickup at 9pm at Treviso airport. I provided my flight details just in case. The flight was late and I was at the counter at 9:15 pm to find it was closed. Then I figured out that Discovercars don't answer any phones, including the one they provide on the booking under the guise of "Due to high volumes of calls". Getting into the night with kids, stranded at the airport, I had to take a taxi to my destination and then take a taxi to the airport next day with costs of over 130 EUR. The next day, I figured out that my booking is no longer valid, I have to make a new one, wherever I want and pay twice the price. The agent at the rental said that Discovercars are an extremely problematic agent - they do not forward the full booking details and impossible to get in touch with in case of any issues. All my attempts to get any reaction from Discovercars since then till today (3 weeks) over emails or other media failed. To add to all this - Discovercars charged me 70 EUR for this order that never happened.
Be warned and stay away from Discovercars.
I usually don't leave bad reviews but I did have a few problems with discovercars.com
1 - The booking number never worked in My Booking so I could never manage my booking or see the details. I sent an email but it was a long wait before I got a reply.
2 - I paid the full amount for my car booking to discover cars but then I also got charged around £198 by budget when I handed back the car. I looked at the invoice and there was a voucher prepayment of around £468 which got deducted off the total bill from Budget - it appeared budget never received the full funds from discovercars.com so I had to pay the deficit. I then emailed support, only for them to say it will take upto 15 days to respond.
I am absolutely sure it's a great service when it works, but when it goes wrong, you can't get the support from this lot. I would seriously be concerned if there was a ... problem. Book direct to Budget / Avis / Whoever. It won't save you much in the long term.
