Nice bit of kit, faffy after a while

quick release worked smoothly and the head held position without drama. Then, after maybe six months and hardly any heavy use, two small but annoying things started: the quick‑release screw would loosen by itself and the head began to creep down on occasion. I mean, the load was well within the stated limits, so that caught me out. I contacted the company and their first suggestion was basically “tighten the screw” — which, yes, I was doing already, so that felt a bit useless. I tried to explain that the creeping was intermittent so I couldn't reliably film it, and that was that for a short while. They then offered an exchange and asked for the order ID, which seemed promising. A few days later they sent a return label and I posted the head back. Couple of weeks later I got a parcel and, annoyingly, it turned out to be the exact same unit I’d sent in — no note, nothing. They said they'd “repaired” it but all they had done was tighten the screw (which predictably came loose again). So the product itself — when it works — is genuinely good, but the follow‑up and customer service around the fault were frustrating and patchy. I still like the engineering and would recommend it for performance, but be careful: keep proof of the fault, use tracked returns and make clear you want a replacement, not a “repair”. I’d also wish they were clearer and quicker with real fixes. Hopefully they improve that side of things, because the product deserves better service.

A bit annoyed but not done yet

I remember testing it on the kitchen table, thinking “this will be perfect” — it was a gift for my wife and for the first few months it behaved itself. Then, out of the blue, the quick-release screw started coming loose all the time and, worse, the head would slowly creep down when left clamped. We weren’t loading it with anything silly, all well within the stated limits, so that was baffling. I got in touch with Sirui and at first they were reasonably quick to reply, suggesting I tighten the screw. Which, yes, I’d already been doing, so that felt a bit pointless. I explained that and that I couldn’t video the creep because it was intermittent, and they then offered to exchange it — promising a return label and a replacement once they’d received the old one. Fine, sounds sensible.
So I boxed it up and sent it back. A few weeks later a parcel arrived; I opened it thinking “great, sorted” and it was the same unit I’d sent off, no note, no explanation. I chased them and they said it had been repaired — which, as far as I could tell, just meant someone had tightened the screw and sent it back. The creeping started again a couple of weeks later. Since then my emails haven’t been answered properly; I get either silence or generic replies and I’m left chasing. It’s frustrating because when the head works it does its job well — I’ve had other suppliers who swapped faulty kit straight away with no fuss, so I know it can be done better. There’s a little reluctance to recommend Sirui because the customer service and the handling of the return were sloppy, and the delivery of the “replacement” was almost pointless. If you care about aftercare, maybe look elsewhere. Small things like clear communication and actually doing what you promise make a big difference.

Wrong parcel, wrong job, wrong company

great, finally replacing some kit. First impression when the first parcel turned up was already weird — it felt light. I opened it and, yep, face masks. Just a box of masks. Odd, but I shrugged it off and waited for the second one. The second parcel was sealed with tamper tape. Proper sealed. I picked it up and my gut told me it was empty. So I called the police. Two officers came, they cut the seal with me standing there like an idiot, and there were more masks. Same again. This felt less like a shipping error and more like someone had been playing a very expensive joke. I rang the company. I managed to get through to their US office and spoke to a guy who tried to help — sounded upset himself, bless him, and said he’d sort it. Another contact offered to let me buy the lens again at the same price and promised a secure link so it would ship straight from the manufacturer. I tried to accept that, but nothing came through. Stonewalling is the polite word I’d use. Or maybe “disappearing act”. Meanwhile I’m on a job. We had to cancel a shoot. I’m a filmmaker — indie, long hours, long history of festival runs — so this isn’t small potatoes for me. I’d provided invoices, photos, vlog clips even, all showing that the gear had been bought from the right place. Still, zero proper support. Eventually the money was returned after I chased it via the bank and the credit card dispute, but that’s not the point. The hassle, the time, the crew unpaid, the lost day — that’s what stings. I’m arranging legal steps because it mattered and because it was avoidable. Look, maybe other people got lucky. Maybe some orders arrived fine. There are, though, enough odd stories online to make you think twice. The experience felt careless at best and suspicious at worst. If you value your time, your crew and your shoot, I’d be cautious about buying expensive camera kit from this seller. Emotional note: it left me more annoyed than angry, tired more than furious, and oddly reluctant to trust product photos for a while.
