On 10th July 26 I bought a Highlands Fan02 pedastal fan from Sonic Direct, costing £29.95.
The experience of paying over the telephone and buying this fan was to say the least, bizarre.
An irritating male by the name of Paul in their sales department insisted that I arrange from a taxi to collect the Fan from the store and deliver it to me, as I was housebound and agoraphobic and that unless he said taxi driver quoted a numeric code he gave me without their prompting him to so so, they would not release the fan! Was I buying the crown jewels? No?!
In the meantime an electrican I had contacted phoned me and I mentioned the fan and he said he was working around the corner from Sonic Direct and would collect it for me on his way home.
I paid the electrican (Hussein) £30 to bring the fan to me. It was a boiling hot day and I was near collapsing with the heat.
The fan came with missing parts, no ... holes to ... the base to the cross feet and it was a a nightmare to get the base cross feet to connect. The fan was nothing more than tacky cheap plastic ..., I was told by Paul that it was an excellent fan well worth buying, well sorry I really do not agree!
I struggled to get it back into its box and phoned the store about the faults asking for a refund.
I was asked to prove it was faulty by sending in photos which I did.
Then the arrangement was that the fan would be collected.
I work nights to earn enough money to pay my rent, I am a pensioner and I have no dexterity in my hands or fingers which are badly deformed from severe arthritis. I work from home over the phone 7 nights per week. I am struggling alone with no help as all of my family andf friends are now dead.
Firstly the store said they would collect the item, after endless exhausting dialogue by email wih the most irritating man I have ever exchanged emails with - Ian Mcloughlin. I asked that the driver came in the afternoons to avoid waking me as I work nights, they refused to guaranteed that the driver would not arrive in the morning and wake me up.
Then they insisted that the driver would not do as I asked and just open the unlocked front door and take the fan and leave quietly as I am bilaterally deaf, there is no doorbell and I would not hear anyone knock. I can't walk. I am in 24/7 pain. I am agoraphobic. I told them all of this but no, they insisted it was their way or no way.
I had to report the matter to Trading Standards as the staff by both email and my phoning, refused to pass on my complaint to their CEO who was conveniently not available. They have blocked me making a formal complaint and left me with a fan fit only for a refuse bin. It is not fit for purpose.
I am now exhausted with my dealings with Sonic Direct, and can honestly say, that my shopping experience is the worst shopping experience of my almost 70 years of life. They are the most difficult and petty, unhelpful people I have ever had to deal with in my entire life. Completely irritating and a nightmare to deal with. Time wasters with zero respect for their customers. They seem to forget that it is the customers who pay their wages. They should be closed down. I will ever ever shop with them again and I would advise others to think twice about doing so also. They are unbelievably head ... Diabolical. Utterly diabolical.
Ian Mcloughlin Sonic Direct's Customer service Manager refused to pass m email of complaint about the fan and also him, onto the Parshotam Showan, CEO of Sonic Direct and the staff who handled my phone call to the store today also refused to pass me through to the CEO. They clearly want to evade recourse which I have a legal right to as with anyone else. There is no email address for the CEO anywhere online so that speaks volumes about them also.
I am digusted at basically being mugged by this store for what ius a substandard, unfit for purpose fan fit only for a dustbin. OK £29.95 is not a lot of money to some people but to pensioner like me it is a lot. I have a heart condition and I have suffered a ..., I needed that fan as I was struggling in the intense heat of that day, they let me down by selling me ..., taking advantage of my incapacity and age as a lone vulnerable female nearly 70 years of age. How low could a store stoop? AVOID!Wary then satisfied
Overall I'm pleased — I was a tad sceptical at first but that changed actually. I ordered the washing machine for next day delivery, used it that evening; they did ring about 30 minutes beforehand. Hammad and Minde turned up on time, plumbed it in without fuss and left everything quite tidy.
When it finally clicked
I remember standing there, TV box in hand, and thinking — this was the right call. Zeb knew his stuff, priced it fairly, and explained things clearly; didn't oversell. Service at Sonic has been solid before, though I've had mixed luck elsewhere, so this felt reassuring. Hanif helped afterwards, which honestly sealed it for me, properly.
No fuss, mostly pleased
I hesitated at first — ordering big stuff online, worried about warranty and whether they'd bother with upstairs delivery. The five‑year parts-and-labour guarantee nudged me to try them. Delivery team were polite and carried it upstairs, though the box had a small crease. Not flawless, but it's working fine. Would tell mates to consider it, especially for the warranty.
Bit wary at first
Was a bit wary after some dodgy experiences with other firms, but the whole thing — from the order call to delivery and installation — turned out smooth. Shaf was really helpful, gave a fair price and the installers did a tidy, first-class job. Still a bit surprised, but pleased.
New kitchen bits that actually work
Halfway through fitting the new units I found a different handle would work better, and swapping it was dead easy — the advisor on the phone sorted it and rebooked delivery without faff. The surfaces feel solid, the drawers glide nicely (that little smoothness makes morning routines calmer), and the bits look like they’ll last. Delivery team were friendly, on time, careful with the flooring. Properly useful, I use it every day.
New flat, same old chaos
they rang the day before, and again on the morning with a time slot. The two delivery guys were polite, careful with the packaging and checked everything off my list, which saved me faffing later. Price-wise I thought it was fair, not the absolute cheapest but good value for what you get. All in all it made the move less stressful and I’m pleased with how the things work day to day.

In a cafe a mate mentioned them; delivery arrived spot on, customer service fixed a small mix-up — not perfect, but really happy and would recommend

Surprise find, actually handy
Halfway through fitting it last Saturday I realised how light and solid it felt — pleasant surprise. I ordered midweek, chose a delivery date two days later, got tracking updates and it turned up early. First impression was "that's proper good", kept smiling while using it and a bit smug, to be honest. Felt like a bargain.
Good job, minor issue
Overall, quite pleased but not perfect. They installed quickly and explained stuff while working, were polite and cleaned up. Small gripe about one corner, otherwise would use them again.
