I noticed the empty space on the table the morning of the birthday. I’d ordered six bottles and assumed quick UPS delivery. I didn’t realise they ship from Prague until after ordering. The parcel took two weeks to turn up. UPS kept sending delivery slots and then not showing. Their automated phone system is slow and annoying, and after two long calls the driver had already left the wine at the wrong address. The company did help trace the parcels eventually, slowly but they did. The surprise was that all six bottles arrived intact, not a mark on them, which is when I finally felt satisfied. If you’ve had smooth deliveries elsewhere this will be frustrating. Others have reported similar problems, so buy with plenty of time or not at all.
The sip that made me shrug
the wine hit the spot, mellow and exactly what I’d hoped for, and for a brief second I forgot the whole delivery saga. The rest of it was clumsy though — UPS had clearly repacked things and the packing slip showed the missing bottles. 8Wines’ replies were vague, the usual “we’ll check with UPS” dance, which was annoying. Would I order again? Probably, for the selection — I use the bottles for casual dinners and midweek treats — but I’d be wary and keep an eye on the courier next time.
Wrong bottles, poor follow-up
no champagne for my event, wasted time, and money tied up while they "look into it". The experience felt amateurish for a company that markets itself as premium. Practical details matter — the weight of the bottle, the look of the label, the timbre of the cork — they all told you something was wrong before even opening. Useful if you want a heads-up: check everything on delivery and don't rely on quick fixes. I would not use them again.
Half a decent experience
the full refund hit my account on 21 October. So yes, the outcome was fine, but the whole middle bit was messy and opaque. I’d liked clearer updates and less hiding behind Terms of Service. Small comfort that they honoured the refund, but don’t expect a smooth ride — double-check tracking and be ready to chase them if things go sideways.
Spoilt evening, still hopeful
I’m disappointed by how this was handled, but I’m not writing them off. I bought an €80 bottle for a midweek dinner and it was corked. One of us holds WSET Level 3, so we recognised it straight away. The bottle had been stored correctly. We emailed the seller that day and left the bottle untouched for inspection. They replied quickly, which I appreciated, but then said no claim could be made because more than 14 days had passed since purchase. That felt odd and a bit of a cop‑out. Cork taint is a known risk with natural cork and at that price you’d expect the seller to take more responsibility or to have insurance. In the end they offered a €15 credit. Helpful, yes, but nowhere near the value of the ruined bottle and not really fair for the evening lost. I buy their wines for weeknight meals and small gatherings, and most bottles have been fine, so I’ll probably try them again — just with a bit more caution next time.
