I never expected a short field jacket to be the thing that would change how I view a brand. I picked it up once on a TK Maxx rail for a price that actually made sense. At £350 it felt like a risk worth taking. The design was quietly good—no loud logo, clean lines—and that was a pleasant surprise. I’m the sort who worries about fabric and fit. On first inspection at home there was that niggle under the left pocket. It didn’t sit right. Not enormous, but noticeable. So back it went. Disappointed, but still curious, I decided to give A‑Couvert the benefit of the doubt and buy direct. I hoped buying from the source would mean better checks, better service, and fewer surprises.
The price online (£584.99) made me pause. I weighed the cost against the design and the earlier experience. I decided to proceed because I thought the extra money would buy care — and frankly because I liked the jacket. The website said dispatch within 24 hours. That’s what sold it. What arrived instead was silence. Ten days of silence. A couple of emails vanished into the void. Eventually someone replied to say the team had been felled by flu and that a “gesture” would be sent as compensation. That explanation felt oddly human, so I accepted the delay. Five more days passed. The order status stayed stubbornly on “processing.” Only when I asked for cancellation did the parcel suddenly ship the next day. Odd timing.
When the jacket arrived I had a weird sense of déjà vu. The same misplaced fabric under the left pocket. Same issue I’d already returned once. I kept the jacket, not because I was thrilled, but because by then I’d lost faith in the returns process and didn’t fancy another runaround. The promised gesture never appeared. Follow‑ups came back with “it was sent separately” and then nothing. Three emails later I had nothing but unfolded expectations.
The jacket itself is decent for the money at TK Maxx levels. The design is quiet and unexpectedly well considered. The buying experience from A‑Couvert, however, left a lot to be desired. Poor communication, slow handling, and an unfulfilled promise make it hard to recommend buying at full price. Would I buy from them again? Possibly if I saw it at a discount on a rail. Full price and direct? Not on your life.Drizzle-tested and slowly sorted
it turned up late, emails never answered, I blew up their Instagram inbox and got promises of 'sorted tomorrow' for ages. In the end they did sort an exchange and the new size fits like a dream, though it took far too long. I paid a decent wedge for it, so patience was required, but now I'm actually honestly pleased.
