Meetup

Thanks to the advent of technology, the world has become a global village where people from two different parts of the world can interact with one another. The internet has made it easy for individuals to meet new people, make new friends, advertise their businesses to wider audiences, and even get employed without stepping out of their houses. There are so many social networks that assist the free flow of communication and interactivity that one may not even see the need to leave their homes and make new friends. One of its downsides, however, is that there are so many users in a social media platform with different individuality and interests that it would take tons of searches to find people who share the same interests with you. And most of them may not even be in your area. Thankfully, there are some specialized online platforms where people can meet, do business, and even attend events with other people in their locality who share the same interests. One of those websites is Meetup. To know more about this online platform and how it can benefit your interests, kindly go through unbiased reviews of Meetup left here by individuals who have used them or are current members of the platform. Their views and opinion can help you make informed decisions when interacting with members of the website.

About Meetup
Meetup was founded by Scott Heiferman and four co-founders in 2002 and is a service used to organize online groups where people with similar interests can host in-person events for themselves. The idea came when Heiferman met his neighbours for the first time after the twin tower blasts of September 11. He also got inspirations from the book, Bowling Alone, which centres on the deterioration of community in American Culture. The company was initially intended to focus on interests and hobbies until Howard Dean popularized it in his 2004 presidential campaign. Meetup was acquired by WeWork in 2017 and later sold it to AlleyCorp in 2020. Meetup is headquartered in New York City.

Products and services of Meetup
The platform allows users to create and join groups that host local in-person events. Each member can join multiple groups or RSVP for any number of occasions. The site is usually used to share a hobby, find friends, or for professional networking. Every group is associated with one of over 30 categories, including adventure and outdoor activities, parents and family, career and business, etc. The categories are also divided into over 18,000 tags that represent the group’s theme. Meetup charges organizers a fixed fee for setting up and running the group.
