give me my money back — now. I bought a big pearl ring for my wife, it fell apart twice, they offered to mend or replace it rather than refund, and the whole thing has been a merry-go-round of polite emails and very bad luck. Right, story time (with a bit of frustration and a dash of dry humour).
I ordered the ring in October, gave it to my wife for her birthday in December — lovely moment, she was chuffed. Then, about two and a half weeks later, the pearl dropped out. Not a loose stone, not a wobble, just gone. I sent it back for repair. They acknowledged receipt in late January and said it would be back in a week. They also warned it might be shipped from abroad, so fine, that explains a delay maybe — except it wasn’t one week, it was well over. We only got the ring back about the third week of February. Relief, right? Briefly.
A week after that, at the end of February, the pearl fell out again. So, same issue, same ring, same heartbreak. That’s when I blew a fuse — fairly, I think. This isn’t a one-off misfortune, it’s a recurring fault. I made a straightforward request: full refund to my account and I’ll send the thing wherever they want. No re-repairs, no suggestions that I buy a “better” version at extra cost. Just the original amount back, please.
Their responses were… mixed. The customer experience rep was apologetic and said they’d escalate it to a senior manager. Nice start. The senior manager then sent several polite emails which, in fairness, explained why the problem might have happened: apparently a large 10mm pearl is delicate; silver is a softer metal so prongs can bend; if you wear a pearl daily it’s not the most robust choice unless it’s in a protective setting. All sensible, to an extent. But it came off as a lecture about my purchase rather than a solution to a repeated failure of a piece sold as finished jewellery.
They offered to make a brand-new silver ring and replace the pearl — free — but the caveat was that I had to post the ring back to them, insured and tracked, with a big note inside, and they’d apparently pay to return it. Then there was the suggestion to “upgrade” to 14K white gold for durability, which would obviously cost more. So the options were: accept another replacement (which had already failed once), pay more for an upgrade, or try to get it fixed locally at my expense. That didn’t sit right with me — I paid full price for a finished, wearable ring that started falling apart in weeks.
I’ve dealt with jewellery houses before (some good, some awful) and normally a repeat failure like this would at least come with a refund or a straight swap for the exact promised item. Here, they accept the fault in a roundabout fashion — yes, pearls are delicate, yes silver is soft — yet the onus ends up on me to either accept more waiting and posting, or spend extra money to “fix” what they sold me. That’s not great customer service in my book, even if the tone of the emails was pleasant and the staff weren’t rude. I can appreciate the explanations, but they don’t replace the pearl that fell out twice.
I’m not pretending this is a total disaster. The company were responsive; they answered emails and didn’t ignore me, and it’s clear some staff tried to be helpful. The offer to replace the ring for free, with tracked shipping, was, in theory, a decent attempt at making it right. But when a repair or a replacement has already failed, asking the customer to go along with another round of postal circus feels like passing the buck. Small practical things were annoying too — the long delay, the back-and-forth about how to send it, instructions to include a huge note with the order number (yes, that’s normal, but it felt like extra hassle after what I’d been through).
So I’m asking for a straightforward remedy: refund the purchase and tell me where to send the ring, or give me a proper, guaranteed replacement that’s actually designed to withstand daily wear (not just another silver setting with a large pearl). If they want to convince me otherwise, they’d need to offer a clear warranty and take responsibility for the fact that this product failed twice within weeks. Until then I’ll be escalating things — I’ve got consumer complaint options I can pursue — but I’d much rather this was sorted without that. Anyway, lesson learned for me: a showy pearl might look gorgeous on the hand, but unless it’s set up for real life, it’s more photo prop than jewellery.Lovely-looking, sadly flimsy
don’t bother if you want something that lasts. My partner bought this after I pointed it out in a little high-street shop window — honestly looked quite smart — but after about three weeks of normal wear a prong wobbled and another popped off.
