battery scheme for life of watch
I am writing to you to raise an issue about: Jewellers
The issue that I have experienced was: In December 2020 I went into this branch to have a new battery put in my Rotary watch.
They offered me an in "house deal" whereby for a payment of £16 they would replace free for the watches life a new battery .As Hinds are a large Company I decided to accept the offer. In July 2021only 8 months after the battery was fitted it failed. All previous batteries I have had installed by other watch repairers all lasted in excess of a year.I returned to the Orpington Branch & they had no battery in stock ,so one was ordered .A week later I returned .The assistant took over half an hour replacing a battery which other providers over 10 years fitted in minutes .They said there had been a problem fitting .They asked me to sign a receipt ,for the work .They then passed me the watch ,which they said was working.I turned to the door to leave the shop.I then noticed IT WASN'T WORKING .I went back in & advised an assistant.A different member of staff ,after another 25 minutes another staff member approached me & said "There is a fault with the watch we can repair it for £90 ,or dispose of it & give you a 20% discount on a new watch..I was so appalled at the attitude & poor service I refused .Staff have a disinterested attitude in fitting batteries They are only interested in selling their watches & jewels,.Amazingly the walls of the shop are festooned with "AWARD CERTIFICATES"received by staff in the branch .I then went to another Jewellers shop they investigated & said my watch mechanism had been damaged by installation of faulty batteries.A repair of the mechanism cost £60 which I accepted ..I contacted Hinds Head Office by e mail & told them in detail what had happened & asked for £60 for the damage incurred by them .They refused.

Hines Put new batteries in my Tag
Quartz watch. Both batteries failed. I was then told the watch
Needed a part replacing in the watch at a cost of £445.00
Took the watch elsewhere and a new battery was fitted. No repair was needed and the watch now works perfectly. Are Hines people liars, incompetent or just simply gangsters?
Managed to damage watch whilst replacing battery. Just suggested a service at £88 or browse their current offers. No intention of putting it right.
I had been using F.Hinds for years. Having service life battery changing. This time I had very horrible experience. I did give 3 watches. They did not put in a system 3 watch which was my son watch, Tottenham supporter watch. The manager of Crawley shop Nicole was extremely rude as well as sale assistant Dorota G.. I described the watch by saying Tottenham supporter black watch. She could not find. Advising the watch is not in a store. I asked to call a person whom was taking my watches on Saturday they refused to do. I found the pic of the watch on my camera, then they found the watch. Saying they do not know how Tottenham support watch looking like. And saying I had described it wrong. Sorry what about to spend 2 min and google or do anything to provide the best customer survive. On a first place the shop assistant did not put in a system 3 watch. Then they just say the watch not in a store. Without even properly looking. They should not work in a customer service with the attitude they provide to customers. I would never ever use this store. I do not know whom put such a rude person as a manager too.
So upset been married 18 mths and brought my ring from f hinds last month I picked up a heavy bag of shopping and the ring colapased on my finger I rang f hinds who said to bring in for repair which I did they are now saying it can't be repaired and I can have 25%off a new one I'm so annoyed thought you had a wedding ring for life not 18mths so I Complained to customer service and the response was yes the damage could be caused by picking up heavy shopping but it is not repairable will be going to the ombudsman with this all I want is my ring
My husband bought my engagement ring here and it lasted 3 years before the diamond fell out, luckily it was into my hand, so we were able to take it in to get repaired. They repaired all 4 of the clasps at a cost of £80, apparently it was not under guarantee anymore. However only a month later, the diamond fell out again, and this time was lost. I contacted customer service who said I should take it into the store and it should be under a repair guarantee. When I got to the store I was told that there was a note on the system from the repair saying they couldn’t promise that the stone wouldn’t fall out again. They said they could send it to be repaired again but it would probably cost me more. I declined. They then offered me their cash for gold scheme, and said they could give me store credit for £20 for it. What a joke. I regret allowing them to repair it and should have put the money towards a better made replacement from somewhere else.
Purchased some earrings for a family members birthday online and was provided with a delivery date. When the item did not arrive i called the Customer Service team in Uxbridge only to be told basically it was tough and i should have paid more for better a postage option. Was then told they wouldn't even look into it for 10 days and then it would be down to me to call them back. Asked to speak to a Manager only to be told there was no one available and then when i did make a complaint I was told i hadn't even asked to speak to one. I don't know what the products are like as i have still not received my purchase but the customer service is terrible and at the end of the day although all companies have problems from time to time, its how they deal with them which a basis on whether there are a good company and in my experience F.Hinds are absolutely awful. I would also fear given my experience that they will even be around for much longer.
I bought a watch strap from Hinds and the top of the strap cracked and the fastener came off and i took it back to the shop and the manager was shocking.
I had my receipt and he said that it was my skin that had caused the damage???So it was not fit for purpose. How can my skin cause damage to the top of the strap?
Eventually he reimbursed me and took the watch and chopped off the strap and chucked in in the bin including the metal part of the watch that you attach the strap to.
I didn't notice until I went into another jewelers and they pointed out that part of the watch was missing.
I went all the way back to Hinds, and showed him what he had done.
He never once apologise.or smiled during the time I was in the shop.
Shocking that people like this have jobs. His manner was appalling I will never visit Hinds again.
Gift in Meadowhall store
Absolutely disgusting behaviour and customer service at the Meadowhall store today. I went into the store to exchange a gift I had bought for my partner this Christmas. Upon opening the gift we discovered that a piece was broken, as it fell out the package.
On arrival to the store one staff was serving and other staff were ignoring the queue, one even hoovering the shelves while watching customers waiting to be served. After a fifteen minute wait one staff member approached and asked if we needed any help. I explained the above and it appeared that she was going to exchange the gift for one that wasn’t broken. A couple of minutes later I was approached by a male staff member who approached with an aggressive attitude, immediately on the defensive stating that the item purchased would have been pristine when it left the store insinuating that I had broken the item once leaving the store. He stated that the items are boxed up in store and the staff are extremely careful and wouldn’t have broken the item, the argument continued for 5 minutes. I then informed him that I hadn’t seen the item until my partner had opened it. The staff had not boxed the item in front of me and it had been placed under the Christmas tree ever since. More sarcastic accusations towards the broken item being my doing rather than taking any responsibility and simply exchanging the gift. I explained again that I came into the store asked to purchase the item and the young lady went into the back and came out with the item in the gift bag that I had purchased, so how was it that without him seeing the packaged wrapped he could ensure the item was not broken before the sale, as he was insinuating.
In a rather abrupt and rude manner he asked for my card and did not state why he needed it. I informed him this was the card I purchased the item. He then started to ignore me and started typing things onto the till. I stated “I’m suggesting you’re giving me a refund and not an exchange” as I politely requested. He slammed the receipt on the counter and in an arrogant way stated “yes, that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
The worst shopping experience I have ever had in my entire life. My partner was upset as she did not get the Christmas gift she had so much wanted. If I was this male staff members manager he would no longer be working for my company. I was not the only unhappy customer in at that time. One woman next to us asked if the shop had any Swatches, to which he completely ignored her until she left the shop. I can only imagine what the rest of the working day entailed, with his poor attitude towards customers.
Won't go back
Went into Meadowhall shop to price citizen special edition bullhead watch. First told price was "as is" so asked if any price matching available. Answer was yes,but as we had only gone in to price it,hadnt taken cash to purchase it on the spot. We asked for a card to contact store but were told in no uncertain terms that they didn't need to discount the item as they would sell it at full price regardless, and as soon as we left the store, any deal was off. Basically he said he didn't need our custom, and he said it with a bad attitude. The watch was £695.00
