Funny thing — I only spotted the portable air-con because a friend mentioned it on Currys' site. Price looked right, so I tried to order for in-store collection. I had doubts straight away though; the website kept timing out and the basket wouldn't hold the item. Two phone attempts followed with advisers trying to help, but both calls dropped. I waited until the next day and the price had jumped by £60, which left me annoyed. Eventually I did collect the unit and it cools the room well. So the product works, but the ordering hiccups and sudden price rise have left me wary. Not perfect, but usable.
Surprise-gift gone wrong
their returns rule is inflexible and we ended up out of pocket, though at least we didn’t get absolutely nothing back. My husband bought an Apple Watch as a surprise. I opened it at home, tried it on and it didn’t fit — simple as that. Took it back to the shop, was told no exchange or refund because the packaging had been opened. Staff said I should have tried it on in store, which wasn’t possible since it was meant to be a surprise. They offered £64 against a £229 purchase. I left with a watch that doesn’t fit and a bad taste. We’ve had easier returns elsewhere, especially online, so this felt oddly harsh. I’m actually relieved we got some compensation, but it’s still poor handling and inconsistent information from staff. Useful to know for anyone thinking of buying a sealed gift in-store.
LG TV ...amp... Soundbar - lost by Currys computer system as a Ghost Order
Ordered a black Friday LG OLED 55" TV and soundbar via the website. Decent saving on the whole package and 12 months Interested free too. Order placed and the delivery was to arrive at the Dunfermline branch on the tuesday 2 days later.
Tuesday...no emails to say its arrived...Ok maybe its taking an extra day.
Wednesday...still nothing. Called customer services, on hold for 78 mins...picked up and hang up immediately. Called again, this time 48 mins to get through...in a call Centre that sounded like a night club, couldn't hear word they were saying. Went onto live chat, waited for just under an hour to get a response...lots of asking me the same question repeatedly...then "that order number isn't attached to your email address!" and then "sorry nothing we can do" and they ended the chat!
Went to the store... spoke to the duty manager, almost immediately..."yeah its a ghost order, we cant do anything, go call customer services" then he said " yeah we know its not right because TVs cant be picked up in store as the couriers insurance wont cover it"...what does that even mean? Came back home spoke to customer services again who admitted he was talking nonsense.
So the solution they came up with was cancel your order and replace it...TV has now gone back up in price by £400! They said cancel your order and we will replace the order in 3 days or so... nope, if I cancel it then I have cancelled it and have no legal come back.
Today, made a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman as the order is still showing on my account, finance is still allocated to me for it, and I have no TV ... soundbar.
What are they doing to fix it... sending emails saying " we are sorry and will look into it"A small saga that ended well
earlier than the slot and the driver even left it out of the rain. Box a bit scuffed but all fine inside. I'd order again. Tip: keep an eye on emails for updates. Service was human, which is rare these days.
A bit of a faff
I was scrolling, spotted a decent bit of kit on Currys and my mate had already sent the link, so I bought it and paid with Klarna. Klarna confirmed the payment, Currys said collection in five days. I waited. Nothing turned up. I phoned and first person told me it was “in process”. Later it was cancelled — no warning, no explanation — just gone. It’s annoying, sure, but the real kicker was when the same item reappeared at nearly £100 more and they refused to honour the original price or even admit they’d messed up. Customer service felt like talking to a script most of the time; one agent did try to sort things but was powerless. Delivery/collection was the biggest headache; the systems didn’t talk to each other. The product itself works fine (I bought it elsewhere in the end), so not a complete loss. Still, the whole experience was clunky and showed they don’t exactly value your time.
Delivery hiccup, but it ended up alright
Walked into the shop and left with a machine on 30 July. At first I was quite happy — staff were brisk but helpful. The delivery arrived when they said it would, which was good. Then I opened the box and a part was missing. That started the fun. I emailed and phoned the same day. There’s no direct line to the store, so everything went through general customer service. For a long while I just got scripted replies. “We’ll pass it on” and “a manager will ring” became my new ringtone. I kept at it, sent more emails, called a few times. I was sceptical, frankly. Then, eventually, a manager did call back. They apologised, ordered the part and arranged a follow-up delivery. It took longer than it should have, and it was annoying. But in the end the missing piece arrived and the machine works fine. So I moved from doubt to relief. Not perfect. But acceptable given the outcome.
That little click of relief
cheap and clumsy, and I remember thinking “this won’t end well”.
We switched it on, it rattled, the front panel didn’t sit flush, and after a week it refused to work properly. I followed the company process, rang, emailed, did everything they asked. There were lots of phone calls, a few apologies, then an engineer visit who actually looked properly at it. That was the turning point — the Bosch engineer on the 17th (I remember the date because I’d been away and came back and thought “here we go again”) told me, calmly and clearly, that the machine had been fitted without the proper Bosch fittings and that the front leg had been damaged during the original install. He explained the error code we’d seen was caused by water getting into the wrong place, and that someone had even drilled holes into the appliance to attach the facia. He wasn’t dramatic about it, just clear and methodical. I felt relieved because finally a professional had looked and said what I suspected.
That said, it’s not perfect. Currys’ installation team later came back with the replacement and did a half job — swapping parts rather than a proper refit — and the fitters were abrasive, which rubbed me up the wrong way. The facia was glued on, bits were misaligned and the whole warranty situation got complicated after the engineer’s report. There’s been plenty of faffing about with the depot and customer service, and at the time of writing the collection/refund is still being argued over. So yeah, not a tidy outcome.
Overall I’m satisfied that the technical problem was identified by someone competent — that’s the bit that mattered — even if the service chain around it was clunky and slow. It works as a dishwasher in the sense that the machine itself is fine once the faults are acknowledged, but the process of getting there was far too long and messy. I’d buy Bosch again for the kit, but I’d be very careful about the install and the aftercare.HP Envy Printer
They didn't give me much information about my printer, and I'm not very pleased about it. I got caught up in an instant ink deal, and now my printer is running really slowly and wasting ink. The staff didn't seem to know much about the products and ended up selling me a poor quality printer - it was cheap but the ink is expensive.
Oven purchase
I bought a new oven from the store recently. Ordering it was easy and the staff were really helpful in helping me choose the right one. But, when it came to the delivery, it was a bit of a letdown. The first delivery date was missed due to some issue with transportation, which I can understand. The second delivery date didn't go smoothly either, as the delivery team didn't do the installation as promised. It was frustrating because I had paid for installation on the original delivery date. I'm currently trying to get in touch with a manager to sort out this problem, and it's been a real pain not having a working cooker for so long.
TV and soundbar purchase
I went to this electronic shop the other day and I have to say, it was a really good experience. I'm not great with technology, but the staff there were so helpful and patient, giving me advice and helping me out with all the technical stuff. They had a great selection of products too, and I managed to find exactly what I wanted.
Smart TV purchase
I recently ordered a Smart TV online and paid more for a specific delivery time slot between 5-10pm. The TV ended up being delivered at 2.39pm, way earlier than expected, and no one was home to accept it. Even though I had given clear instructions for a safe place to leave it, they weren't followed. The TV was re-delivered the following day, once again when nobody was around. Overall, it was a frustrating experience. I felt like the delivery service I paid for wasn't delivered properly.
Washer dryer purchase
So, I was checking out modern washing machines and I found a couple at this place that were the right size. But the exact ones I wanted mysteriously disappeared, so I ended up with a Haier. The email and text communication during the transaction were quick, which was good. On the morning of delivery, I got a text with an estimated arrival time and a tracker to follow their progress, making it easier to plan my day. The delivery was quick, and they even gave me a useful tip. Now, I'm wondering if this new brand, Haier, will meet my expectations.
Laptop purchase
The guy I spoke to was really helpful when I bought my laptop, he knew his stuff and made sure I got what I wanted without pushing me to buy anything extra. He even managed to get me a discount, which was great. The only problem I had was understanding the barcode payment options, they were a bit confusing.
40-inch TV purchase
I was looking for a new TV and ended up finding the perfect one! The customer service rep was really helpful in explaining all the features and benefits of the 40-inch TV I liked. I felt like I was making an informed decision, which you don't always get in stores nowadays. When I set up my new TV at home, it felt so good. The picture quality is fantastic, and I'm really happy with my purchase. It's like my living room has turned into a mini cinema!
Replacement printer order
Ordering a new printer was so easy - paid without any hassle and was able to pick it up locally. The printer itself was even better than I thought, and I'm really happy I went for the free one-year replacement plan. Big thanks to Wright for their great customer service and easy-to-use website, definitely deserves a 10 out of 10 rating.
Amazon Alexa
So I went to this big tech shop looking for Amazon Alexa, you know? But when I got there, hardly any staff were in sight. Just three guys hanging out by the door, not even trying to help. I showed them a picture of what I was after, and they were like, "Sorry, all sold out." Then this other employee suddenly appears out of nowhere, with a bigger version of what we wanted, but it was double the price! I felt so conned, mate. Being an older person, I reckon he saw me coming and took advantage. I'm proper cheesed off, to be honest.
Oven purchase
I popped down to buy an oven and a lovely lady called Loraine assisted me. She was really knowledgeable about the cooker I was interested in and explained all about the switches. Loraine was super friendly and patiently answered all my queries. Definitely a step up from the usual service at that store.
Laptop purchase
The guy I spoke to at the shop was really good at his job, he totally got what I was after and sorted me out with a great deal. He was dead helpful, knew his stuff, and was dead cheerful. The bloke who came to set up my new laptop did it there and then and made sure I understood everything. Plus, I got a cracking deal on a bundle and some extra care thrown in. All in all, it was a really positive experience, the service was spot on.
Free next day delivery
Absolutely, I got my thing delivered for free the next day, which was brilliant. The cost wasn't anything to shout about, but I chose to buy from a trustworthy seller just in case there were any issues. Sadly, when my item arrived, the box it came in was torn, which was a bit of a letdown. I let them know about it and they said they would inform the delivery service. Apart from that, I was mostly pleased with how everything turned out.
Care plan for a product
I popped into the store the other day to buy a care plan for a product, and I was so chuffed with the service I got. The staff member who helped me out really knew their stuff and took the time to explain everything about the care plan, even mentioning the return policy. I was really impressed by how nice and helpful 'Cool hand Luke' was during our chat. In general, it was a top shopping trip and I'd definitely suggest it to anyone else.
