I first clocked this M6 Solar at a mate's wild camping trip — he tipped me off. I ordered in November and it turned up in January, which was a drag, but honestly the unit itself feels proper solid. The solar panels seem robust and the casing is reassuring. It wasn't preinstalled with Meshtastic like they said, so I faffed about with the wiki and a few downloads for evenings on end. Eventually I got it running and it's been great on walks and camps. Slight annoyance, but mostly pleased.
Waiting for a clear answer
I backed the CrowPi 3 on Kickstarter but nearly pulled out. At checkout postage read 0.00, so I assumed it was included. I’d had doubts beforehand — other campaigns sometimes sneak extra costs in. Those doubts proved valid. Weeks later backers received an email asking for extra shipping, anywhere from $34 to over $100 depending on country. There was no obvious notice on the site. I and others posted screenshots showing the checkout total. Instead of admitting a mistake, the company kept saying we’d all seen an estimated fee. Communication then went quiet. I paid the extra to avoid losing my pledge. The kit arrived and mostly works. It’s not flawless — one USB port is a bit stiff and the casing needed a nudge — but it functions. Customer service was slow and avoided responsibility though. If you want transparency, be warned. If you just want the product and can tolerate poor support, it will do the job.
