I unboxed it on a grey afternoon and went straight to testing. At a glance it looked smart and quite solid. The winding action is actually nice — smooth, not noisy, and it handles my heavier watches without fuss. Timing wasn't perfect though; a few programmes finished quicker than expected, so I opened the case. That's when the mood shifted. Inside were inexpensive Mabuchi-style motors, not the Swiss Maxon units the listing claimed. I fired off emails and got vague answers, delays, the usual 'we'll send a replacement' runaround. In the end I managed a refund, which was a relief, but the customer service felt amateurish and a bit evasive. So, use it if you like the feel and function, but don't expect pristine provenance or top-tier support. I've had better from other shops, honestly. I might try them again if they sort the sourcing.
Slow replies, automated emails — awkward
the ordering process was messy and customer service slow. If you’re after a winder, I’d rather go for a known brand (Orbita) and save the hassle.
Half-unwrapped and unsure
set them to the same time, left them, and now none are more than a minute out. That consistency surprised me, honestly. The build feels solid, the interior lighting makes it look nicer than I expected and the top compartment for manual pieces and straps is actually handy. Different watch sizes sit nicely in the holders too, though a couple needed a tiny tweak to fit snugly — no big deal. I was sceptical at first — who spends this much on a winder? — but it's proved worth it for the peace of mind. A small tip for others: if delivery timing matters, chase it early; they can be flexible. Might pick one up for my dad next year.
Just the right sort of box
foam padding, a small care leaflet, no nonsense. The finish on the Apollo is understated, not trying too hard, and the hinges feel weighty rather than flimsy. There was a tiny nick on the corner (annoying but not a dealbreaker) and Matthew immediately offered to look into it — nice touch.
