the scratch layer didn’t come off, it just tore the paper. I contacted Gift Republic because the seller was on eBay and I thought dealing with the maker might be quicker. Nina Hammerton from customer services sounded genuinely sorry and said they couldn’t refund but would replace it, which was fine by me so I cancelled the eBay return. Then a week later they emailed to say replacement wasn’t possible and offered a different product I didn’t want. I couldn’t reinstate the eBay return because I’d already stepped outside their process, so I was left waiting, a bit stuck. Luckily the eBay seller refunded me in the end, so I wasn’t out of pocket. Bottom line: the scratch coating seems poorly made, that’s the real issue. Customer support promised help but didn’t follow through. Sceptical at first, mildly pleased at the outcome thanks to eBay, but still unimpressed with Gift Republic.
Last thing I unpacked
Oddly, it was the last thing I came across in a box. I’d bought the big cat tin in late summer 2023 from a local Barnes & Noble and didn’t open it straight away. Life got messy soon after — a gas leak and a black mould problem meant I had to clear out ten years of stuff in five days. Fast forward to August 2025 and I’m unwrapping boxes of books and there it is, still sealed. Tried to register the code and it had expired. I was annoyed, then disappointed, thinking the money was wasted. I emailed Gift Republic with a short explanation. Nina from customer service replied overnight. She sent a new code that works for two years. That was the part that surprised me. The in-store purchase had been fine, the tin wasn’t damaged, and the team’s response was prompt and practical. I checked the conservation info before registering, did a bit of reading on the cats and their needs, and then signed the product up. I’m glad it worked out. I wish a larger share of the price went straight to care, but the product itself is decent and the customer service made the difference. Delivery to the shop was fine at the time of purchase, and the aftercare was efficient and courteous. Small hiccup, solved well. I’m relieved and grateful.
