The convenience disappeared quickly 12 October 2026

The moment I realised this chair wasn’t for me was actually while reading the instructions, not even after sitting in it. I’d bought the £350 powered reclining armchair through Debenhams for the evenings, mainly because I wanted something easy to use after work without faffing about with levers. Then the manual said the back needs removing before it can recline safely. I genuinely read that twice. For a powered recliner, that rather cancels out the convenience. That detail wasn’t on the product page, and it mattered. To make things worse, there were several damaged areas when I unpacked it, so returning it felt pretty unavoidable. At first I was told I’d need to pay the return cost myself and claim it back later. That didn’t sit right for an item that arrived damaged and wasn’t described properly. Customer service eventually replied, but it took nearly a week and the response times they gave kept slipping. The odd part is delivery arrived with DX and was fine, yet the collection was arranged with XDP. Their reputation isn’t great, and, predictably perhaps, nobody came to collect it. So I’ve currently got a very large box, containing what is basically a faulty chair, taking up room in my house. The one positive surprise was how quickly I knew I’d made the right call not to keep it. I’m still waiting for a proper solution.
