Strange feeling seeing the installers pull up the morning it finally happened. We'd ordered back in summer with a grant deadline in mid‑December, so I was tense. Delivery was meant to be in September, and yes delays and mixed messages stretched the whole thing out. I kept nagging, they kept promising dates. It wasn't great. Then, a few days before the cut‑off, everything arrived and the team worked quickly. Watching it go live was the moment I knew it had been worth it. The kit works exactly as advertised, and the installers were calm and helpful even though we were stressed. First few hours after set up I checked every function like a nervous parent — honest, it all held up. So, mixed journey but happy ending. A bit rough around the edges and communication could be better. Still, glad we pushed on because the result is solid and that relief was proper.
Not worth the bother
it wasn’t actually ready until Thursday, and, predictably, I only found out when I rang them myself. That kind of sloppy co-ordination kept happening. The fitting was another mess — booked for Monday but the fitters arrived without the cloth. How a company that sells full installations forgets the cloth, I’ve no idea. Result: another reschedule. At that point I’d run out of patience.
We paid extra for an accessories pack which supposedly included proper Aramith balls, chalks, microfiber cloths and cue spray. What turned up was a set of cheap, knock-off balls and none of the other bits. No explanation, nothing offered at the time. I spoke to a manager — a chap called Ted — who said he’d “try” to sort the Aramiths. He then suggested I was only calling for a refund, which felt a bit presumptuous. The balls are listed on their website as in stock, yet he told me they were out of stock. I ended up buying my own set because I was fed up with waiting and the game wasn’t going to be delayed any longer.
If you compare this to other companies I’ve used — and I’ve bought similar items before — the difference in communication is stark. Other firms at least keep you informed if something goes wrong. This lot? You’re expected to chase them at every stage. That said, a small positive: when the fitters finally had everything, they did a tidy job assembling and levelling the table. It looked great and plays well — that was a genuine surprise in an otherwise disappointing experience.
So, to sum up: if you want a beautiful table and don’t mind running the project yourself, fine. If you expect any kind of decent customer service or reliable delivery times, look elsewhere. Paying top price shouldn’t mean you have to do the supplier’s job for them.Almost a Christmas magic trick
Right, picture me in early December ordering a pool table for my son, thinking about the chaos of putting it together on Christmas Eve. I had a few niggles before buying — price seemed a bit cheeky and the stock notice looked optimistic — but the site and fast checkout gave me a warm, slightly guilty shove to go ahead. First impressions were all glossy photos and a reassuring delivery date, so I went for it. On the day I had to chase the courier to find out it hadn’t been collected because it was out of stock; Home Leisure Direct hadn’t told me a thing. They admitted the mistake on the phone and said I’d get a full refund in seven to ten days. I accepted, trying to stay calm for the kids. Ten working days later I rang again and was told the company had gone into administration and been bought by one with a suspiciously similar name, and any refund would be through the administrators. A couple of staff were genuinely apologetic, which was something, but that doesn’t fix the missing present or the awkward conversations with my son. Not a complete train wreck, but I definitely wouldn’t risk it again.
Promising start, lingering issues
Funny thing — I nearly cancelled before I ordered because a big commercial buy feels risky, but the sales chat was so calm and helpful that my doubts all but vanished. Delivery was actually on time and most of the furniture looked sharp, so for a while I was feeling pretty pleased. Then, soon after installation, we spotted problems with a few of the pool tables — the slate on the English tables was off, and it mattered because we’re open to the public. We reported it straight away, sent videos like they asked and were told an engineer would pop by to sort it. That was weeks ago. Still waiting. It’s been awkward dealing with customer service; nobody seems to take ownership and that’s been the worst bit — knocks on our reputation and customers have noticed. I’ve had better aftercare from smaller suppliers in the past, so this is disappointing. Emotionally, it’s a bit deflating, but I’m hopeful they’ll step up. For now, good ordering and delivery, but the follow-up really needs work.
Halfway through, I wished I hadn’t bothered
no delivery date, frozen accounts, paperwork this, paperwork that. I asked for a refund when it became obvious they couldn’t or wouldn’t deliver, and was told refunds couldn’t be issued because the accounts were allegedly frozen. That was two days before Christmas. I reported the matter to trading standards and started a bank dispute under section 75, which I’d recommend to anyone in the same boat — do that early. Some people in accounts were straight with me, which was the only decent part, but elsewhere there felt like more hiding than help. So my doubts before buying didn’t go away — they were confirmed. If you’re tempted, think twice, and maybe use a different supplier. I’d like them to be forced to refund properly and to stop taking customers’ money until they can actually deliver.
